Emergency First Aid Measures
Critical first aid procedures for chemical exposure incidents and medical emergencies
๐ซ Inhalation Exposure
Remove casualty to fresh air and keep warm and at rest. If breathing is difficult, remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Seek medical advice immediately. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration. Seek medical advice immediately. If unconscious but breathing normally, place in recovery position and seek medical advice.
Symptoms:
Cough. Lung irritation Irritation to respiratory tract Nausea.
๐๏ธ Skin Contact
Remove contaminated, saturated clothing immediately. Wash with plenty of water and soap. If skin irritation occurs: Get medical help. If extensive skin contact: get medical help immediately and kept under medical surveillance (hospitalization).
Symptoms:
Minor irritation. Erythema (Redness).
๐๏ธ Eye Contact
Rinse immediately carefully and thoroughly with eye-bath or water. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Consult an ophthalmologist.
Symptoms:
Conjunctival redness.
๐ฝ๏ธ Ingestion/Swallowing
Immediately call a POISON CENTRE/doctor. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person or a person with cramps. Rinse mouth thoroughly with water. Spit out all liquid. Do not give water or any other liquid to drink (alcohol increases the toxic effects). Do NOT induce vomiting. Observe risk of aspiration if vomiting occurs.
Symptoms:
Aspiration hazard. Nausea. Vomiting. Gastrointestinal complaints.
๐จ Immediate Medical Attention Required
Immediate medical advice/attention is required for inhalation exposure, extensive skin contact (may require hospitalization), and ingestion (call a poison center/doctor). First aiders should also seek immediate medical advice.
