Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

In cases of exposure to high concentrations of vapors, smoke or aerosols. Remove the patient to fresh air and keep warm and quiet.

Skin contact

After skin contact, wash with soap and water.

Eye contact

Wash immediately with copious quantities of water, holding the eyelids open for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical help.

Ingestion

Special treatment not usually necessary. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Foam, CO2, powder.

Unsuitable media

Water jet

Specific hazards

Incomplete combustion and thermal decomposition produce gases such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, smoke and hydrocarbons.

Instructions

Because of abundant production of smoke and dangerous fumes, the use of self-contained breathing apparatus is mandatory.

Firefighter Protection

The use of self-contained breathing apparatus is mandatory.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Environmental

Installations should be designed to take all necessary precautions to avoid pollution of water and soil, to minimize risk of pollution, protect sewer inlets from spillage.

Cleanup methods

Use physical means to recover spillage, such as pumping, vacuuming, shoveling, etc.

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

In case of possible formation of vapor, mists or aerosols, assure adequate ventilation. Keep away from other combustible materials and oxidizers. Store the product away from food and drink. Do not smoke, eat, or apply cosmetics in areas where this material is used or applied. Rags impregnated with the product, paper or material used to mop up spillage, present a fire risk. Do not allow these articles to accumulate, dispose of them safely, immediately after use. Prolonged and repeated contact with the skin can provoke skin irritation. After contact with the skin wash with soap and water. Immediately remove all clothes which have been splashed or soiled. Do not breath vapors, mists or fumes.

Storage

Store at ambient temperature away from water, moisture and all sources of ignition. Keep containers closed when not in use. Avoid non-weatherproof storage.

Hygiene

Do not smoke, eat, or apply cosmetics in areas where this material is used or applied. After contact with the skin wash with soap and water. Immediately remove all clothes which have been splashed or soiled.

Fire prevention

Rags impregnated with the product, paper or material used to mop up spillage, present a fire risk. Do not allow these articles to accumulate, dispose of them safely, immediately after use. Design installations to avoid: Accidental spraying of the product onto hot surfaces or live electrics.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Hands

Impervious gloves resistant to hydrocarbons.

Eyes

Goggles or safety glasses with side shields, in case of risk of splashing.

Respiratory

If necessary, wear mask (respirator)

Skin/Body

If necessary, wear boots, clothing impervious to hydrocarbons, safety shoes for the handling of drums.
