First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Get medical attention immediately. Move affected person to fresh air. If not breathing, if breathing is irregular or if respiratory arrest occurs, provide artificial respiration or oxygen by trained personnel. Aspiration hazard if swallowed. Can enter lungs and cause damage.

Symptoms: Not expected under normal use.

Skin contact

Wash with plenty of soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Symptoms: irritation, redness, Defatting to the skin., dryness, cracking, skin rash or hives

Eye contact

Flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Symptoms: pain or irritation, redness, watering

Ingestion

Aspiration hazard if swallowed. Can enter lungs and cause damage. Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation and diarrhea. Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Symptoms: nausea or vomiting

Immediate Medical Attention

Get medical attention immediately.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Use an extinguishing agent suitable for the surrounding fire. Use dry chemical, CO₂, water spray (fog) or foam.

Unsuitable media

Do not use water jet.

Specific hazards

In a fire or if heated, a pressure increase will occur and the container may burst. This material may cause long lasting harmful effects to aquatic life.

Instructions

Promptly isolate the scene by removing all persons from the vicinity of the incident if there is a fire. No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training.

Firefighter Protection

Fire-fighters should wear appropriate protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with a full face-piece operated in positive pressure mode. Clothing for fire-fighters (including helmets, protective boots and gloves) conforming to European standard EN 469 will provide a basic level of protection for chemical incidents.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

For non-emergency personnel: No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. Put on appropriate personal protective equipment (see Section 8). Keep unnecessary personnel away. Avoid breathing vapor or mist. Provide adequate ventilation. For emergency responders: If specialized clothing is required to deal with the spillage, take note of any information in Section 8 on suitable and unsuitable materials. See also the information in 'For non-emergency personnel'. Evacuate area.

Small spill

Stop leak if without risk. Move containers from spill area. Prevent entry into sewers, water courses, basements or confined areas. Absorb with an inert material and place in an appropriate waste disposal container. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Large spill

Stop leak if without risk. Move containers from spill area. For large spills, dike spilled material or otherwise contain it to ensure runoff does not reach a waterway. Absorb with an inert material and place in an appropriate waste disposal container. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Environmental

May be harmful to the environment if released in large quantities. Inform the relevant authorities if the product has caused environmental pollution (sewers, waterways, soil or air). Do not allow any potentially contaminated water, including rain water, runoff from fire fighting or spills, to enter any waterway, sewer or drain.

Cleanup methods

Absorb with an inert material and place in an appropriate waste disposal container.

Materials: inert material

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Put on appropriate personal protective equipment (see Section 8). Do not get in eyes or on skin or clothing. Do not breathe vapor or mist. Do not ingest.

Storage

Store in accordance with local regulations. Store in original container protected from direct sunlight in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area, away from incompatible materials (see Section 10) and food and drink. Do not store in unlabeled containers. Use appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination.

Hygiene

Eating, drinking and smoking should be prohibited in areas where this material is handled, stored and processed. Workers should wash hands and face before eating, drinking and smoking. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

If user operations generate dust, fumes, gas, vapor or mist, use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation or other engineering controls to keep worker exposure to airborne contaminants below any recommended or statutory limits. Engineering controls should be considered as the first line of protection against adverse exposure to harmful substances. Administrative controls and PPE should be used in the absence of engineering controls or as supplemental controls where engineering controls are insufficient in reducing specific exposures to an acceptable level

Hands

The following glove type may be suitable for handling this product. Protective gloves complying with EN374. nitrile rubber, Glove Thickness : ≥0.38 mm, Break through time : ≥ 480 minutes. butyl rubber, Glove Thickness : ≥0.64 mm, Break through time : ≥ 480 minutes. The user must check that the final choice of type of glove selected for handling this product is the most appropriate and takes into account the particular conditions of use, as included in the user's risk assessment. The instructions and information provided by the glove manufacturer on use, storage, maintenance and replacement must be followed. Always ensure that gloves are free from defects and that they are stored and used correctly. Barrier creams may help to protect the exposed areas of the skin but should not be applied once exposure has occurred.

Eyes

Use eye protection according to EN 166, designed to protect against liquid splashes. If contact is possible, the following protection should be worn, unless the assessment indicates a higher degree of protection: safety glasses with side-shields

Respiratory

No personal respiratory protective equipment normally required. In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection. If heated and ventilation is inadequate, use respirator which will protect against organic vapor and dust/mist. Based on the hazard and potential for exposure, select a respirator that meets the appropriate standard or certification.

Skin/Body

Appropriate footwear and any additional skin protection measures should be selected based on the task being performed and the risks involved and should be approved by a specialist before handling this product. Wear work clothing with long sleeves.

Environmental

Emissions from ventilation or work process equipment should be checked to ensure they comply with the requirements of environmental protection legislation. In some cases, fume scrubbers, filters or engineering modifications to the process equipment will be necessary to reduce emissions to acceptable levels.
