First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Move the patient to an area free of dust. Keeping them talking. Vapour from thermal degradation: oxygen therapy where needed. Seek medical help.

Symptoms: Thermal decomposition products may irritate the respiratory system.

Skin contact

In the event that melted product adheres to the skin, do not attempt to remove. Cool the area with water.

Symptoms: Non-irritant. Thermal decomposition products may irritate the skin.

Eye contact

Wash the eyes with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes, lifting the lids. Do not rub.

Symptoms: Possible mechanical irritation in the eye (powder). Thermal decomposition products may irritate the eyes.

Ingestion

No special measures required.

Symptoms: No known effects.

Immediate Medical Attention

Depends on symptoms.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Any kind (water, all types of extinguisher, foam, oxygen starvation) It is a good idea to create water curtains to absorb gases and smoke and cool any equipment, recipients, containers, etc. that have been subjected to a fire. Wash all structures with water after a fire to prevent any potential corrosion.

Unsuitable media

Avoid spraying jets of water directly onto the product.

Specific hazards

When subject to thermal decomposition, hydrogen chloride (a toxic and corrosive gas) is given off, among the other gases and vapours that result generally from combustion. Closed containers could burst due to the formation of gases.

Instructions

Cool containers and/or warehouses with water. Any source of ignition or material that might burn should be moved away from the area. Always ensure the wind is at your back.

Firefighter Protection

Use independent breathing apparatus to protect the respiratory system. Use fire-protection equipment (helmet with face-protector screen, long coat, etc.)

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Collect the spilled product. Do not breathe in powder. Use the recommended protective equipment clothing (see section 8).

Environmental

Collect the spilled product.

Cleanup methods

Collect the spilled product in closed and labelled containers.

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Do not smoke, eat or drink while handling the product. Prevent powder clouds from forming and keep away from heat sources, hot spots or other sources of ignition. Label recipients properly. Fit ventilating equipment that guarantees compliance with the legal regulations on working conditions. Avoid mixing the product with incompatible substances. Before handling the product, ensure that the recipient to be used is clean. Use the recommended protective equipment.

Storage

Ambient temperature. Avoid the accumulation of static electricity. Ensure continuous electrical circuits and earthing when using flexible connections made from insulating material. Ensure there are no sources of ignition close to the storage area (hot surfaces, naked flames, etc.). Protect storage areas with lightning conductors.

Hygiene

Do not smoke, eat or drink while handling the product.

Fire prevention

Keep away from heat sources, hot spots or other sources of ignition. Avoid the accumulation of static electricity. Ensure continuous electrical circuits and earthing. Protect storage areas with lightning conductors.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Assessment of working conditions taking measurements of power on people and in the environment. General ventilation measures, localised extractors where there is a risk of dust being created.

Hands

Not necessary except in case of fire.

Eyes

Integral goggles in powdery atmosphere (EN 166).

Respiratory

Filtering masks (EN 149). FFP1, FFP2, FFP 3 depending on the powder concentration. Mask to protect against powder if the atmosphere is very powdery (FILTERS EN143 P1, P2 or P3). In case of fire, use independent equipment (EN 137).

Skin/Body

Not necessary except in case of fire.

Environmental

Issue points: non-metallic particles containing chlorine and its compounds 150 mg/m³ (R.D. 100/2011). Measuring system: Isokinetic probe and gravimeter.
