First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove to fresh air. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

Skin contact

Cool skin rapidly with cold water after contact with molten material. Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water while removing all contaminated clothes and shoes. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists.

Symptoms: Allergic reactions, Sensitisation, May cause an allergic skin reaction.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention immediately.

Ingestion

Do NOT induce vomiting. Rinse mouth with water. Obtain medical attention.

Immediate Medical Attention

Get medical attention immediately (for eyes), Obtain medical attention (for ingestion), Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists (for skin), Get medical attention if symptoms appear.

Medical Treatment

The first aid procedure should be established in consultation with the doctor responsible for industrial medicine. For specialist advice physicians should contact the Poisons Information Service. Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide.

Unsuitable media

High volume water jet

Specific hazards

Burning produces noxious and toxic fumes.

Instructions

Cool containers/tanks with water spray.

Firefighter Protection

In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Use personal protective equipment.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from entering. Do not touch or walk through spilt material.

Environmental

Prevent product from entering drains. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Use with adequate ventilation. Keep container tightly closed. Remove all sources of ignition.

Storage

Do not store together with oxidizing and self-igniting products. Keep container tightly closed. Keep in a well-ventilated place. Keep away from heat.

Hygiene

Wash hands, forearms and face thoroughly after handling chemical products, before eating, smoking and using the lavatory and at the end of the working period. Appropriate techniques should be used to remove potentially contaminated clothing. Wash contaminated clothing before reusing. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location.

Fire prevention

Remove all sources of ignition. Normal measures for preventive fire protection.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Use with adequate ventilation. Local ventilation is needed in the presence of airborne mists.

Hands

Material: Nitrile rubber; Wearing time: < 60 min; Remarks: Impervious gloves. Gloves should be discarded and replaced if there is any indication of degradation or chemical breakthrough. Request information on glove permeation properties from the glove supplier.

Eyes

Safety glasses with side-shields

Respiratory

In case of mist, spray or aerosol exposure wear suitable personal respiratory protection and protective suit. In the case of vapour formation use a respirator with an approved filter.

Skin/Body

Wear suitable protective clothing. Chemical resistant apron. Choose body protection according to the amount and concentration of the dangerous substance at the work place.
