First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, oxygen should be administered by qualified personnel. Move to fresh air. If symptoms persist, seek medical advice.

Skin contact

Rinse with running water and soap. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. If symptoms develop and persist, get medical attention. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse. Discard any shoes or clothing items that cannot be decontaminated.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention immediately.

Ingestion

Seek immediate medical attention. Do not induce vomiting. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Immediate Medical Attention

Seek medical attention immediately for eye contact and ingestion. If symptoms persist after inhalation or skin contact, seek medical advice.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Sand. Limestone powder. Dry chemical.

Unsuitable media

Water may be an ineffective extinguishing medium. A solid stream of water may scatter molten product.

Specific hazards

Vapors may form explosive mixtures with air. Closed containers may rupture (due to build up of pressure) when exposed to extreme heat. Reacts with water or steam to form methyltetrahydrophthalic acid and methylhexahydrophthalic acid.

Instructions

In case of fire, keep containers cool with water spray.

Firefighter Protection

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing, such as turn-out gear.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

isolate the hazard area and deny entry to unnecessary and unprotected personnel.

Environmental

Do not allow product to enter sewer or waterways.

Cleanup methods

Remove mechanically. Thoroughly wash the area with water after a spill or leak clean-up.

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Use only with adequate ventilation. Remove all sources of ignition. Prevent contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Do not breathe vapor and mist. Wash thoroughly after handling. Wear suitable protective clothing, safety glasses and gloves. Remove clothing and protective equipment contaminated before entering in food areas. Launder work clothes frequently. When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Do not taste or swallow. Keep container closed. Open and handle container with care. Use non-sparking tools when opening or closing containers. Do not cut, grind, weld, or drill on or near this container. Empty containers retain product residue, so obey hazard warnings and handle empty containers as if they were full.

Storage

Keep container tightly closed and in a cool, well-ventilated place away from incompatible materials. Store in a dry place. Avoid moisture. Keep away from heat, spark and flame. Protect from direct sunlight. Store in original container until ready to use.

Hygiene

Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove clothing and protective equipment contaminated before entering in food areas. Launder work clothes frequently. When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Do not taste or swallow.

Fire prevention

Remove all sources of ignition. Keep away from heat, spark and flame. Use non-sparking tools.
