First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove casualty to fresh air and keep at rest. If it is suspected that fumes are still present, the rescuer should wear an appropriate mask or self-contained breathing apparatus. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration.

Symptoms: Harmful if inhaled. May cause respiratory irritation.

Skin contact

Wash off immediately with plenty of water.

Symptoms: Causes severe burns. Extremely corrosive and destructive to tissue.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes.

Symptoms: Causes serious eye damage.

Ingestion

Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Do NOT induce vomiting.

Symptoms: If ingested, severe burns of the mouth and throat, as well as a danger of perforation of the oesophagus and the stomach.

Immediate Medical Attention

Call a physician immediately. Consult an eye specialist immediately. Go to an ophthalmic hospital if possible.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.
