First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Provide fresh air. Mouth to mouth resuscitation should be avoided. Use alternative methods, preferably with oxygen or compressed air driven apparatus. If breathing is irregular or stopped, immediately seek medical assistance and start first aid actions. Keep affected person warm, still and covered. In case of unconsciousness place person in the recovery position. Never give anything by mouth.

Symptoms: Cough, pain, choking, and breathing difficulties.

Skin contact

Wash with plenty of soap and water. If skin irritation occurs: Get medical advice/attention.

Symptoms: Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking.

Eye contact

Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention.

Symptoms: Irritating to eyes.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth immediately and drink plenty of water. Do NOT induce vomiting. Get medical advice/attention.

Symptoms: Nausea.

Immediate Medical Attention

In all cases of doubt, or when symptoms persist, seek medical advice. If breathing is irregular or stopped, immediately seek medical assistance. If skin irritation occurs: Get medical advice/attention. If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention. Get medical advice/attention (for ingestion).

Medical Treatment

None.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

water spray, alcohol resistant foam, fire extinguishing powder, carbon dioxide (CO2)

Unsuitable media

water jet

Specific hazards

Combustible. In case of insufficient ventilation and/or in use, may form flammable/explosive vapour-air mixture. Solvent vapours are heavier than air and may spread along floors. Places which are not ventilated, e.g. unventilated below ground level areas such as trenches, conduits and shafts, are particularly prone to the presence of flammable substances or mixtures.

Instructions

Keep containers cool with water spray. Co-ordinate firefighting measures to the fire surroundings. Fight fire with normal precautions from a reasonable distance.

Firefighter Protection

In case of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Remove persons to safety. Ventilate affected area. Eliminate all ignition sources if safe to do so. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Do not breathe mist/vapours/spray.

Environmental

In case of formation of gases/vapours/mists suppress with water spray. Keep away from drains, surface and ground water. Retain contaminated washing water and dispose of it.

Cleanup methods

Collect spillage.

Materials: Absorbent material (e.g. sand, diatomaceous earth, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust, etc.).

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Use local and general ventilation. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Take precautionary measures against static discharge. Due to danger of explosion, prevent leakage of vapours into cellars, flues and ditches. Ground/bond container and receiving equipment. Use explosion-proof electrical/ventilating/lighting/equipment. Use only non-sparking tools.

Storage

Keep container tightly closed and in a well-ventilated place. Keep cool. Protect from sunlight. Store in a dry place.

Hygiene

Do not eat, drink and smoke in work areas. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas. Do not breathe mist/vapours/spray. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Wash hands after use. Preventive skin protection (barrier creams/ointments) is recommended.

Fire prevention

Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Take precautionary measures against static discharge. Ground/bond container and receiving equipment. Use explosion-proof electrical/ventilating/lighting/equipment. Use only non-sparking tools.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Use local and general ventilation.

Hands

Material: IIR: isobutene-isoprene (butyl) rubber | ≥ 0,5 mm | >60 minutes (permeation: level 3). Unsuitable materials: leather articles, NR: natural rubber, latex, CR: chloroprene (chlorobutadiene) rubber, NBR: acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber, FKM: fluoro-elastomer, PVC: polyvinyl chloride. Wear suitable gloves. Chemical protection gloves are suitable, which are tested according to EN 374. Check leak-tightness/impermeability prior to use. For special purposes, it is recommended to check the resistance to chemicals of the protective gloves mentioned above together with the supplier of these gloves.

Eyes

Wear eye/face protection. (EN 166).

Respiratory

In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection. Type: AX (gas filters and combined filters against low-boiling point organic compounds, colour code: Brown). (EN 14387)

Skin/Body

Protective clothing against liquid chemicals (EN 13034, EN 14605).

Environmental

Use appropriate container to avoid environmental contamination. Keep away from drains, surface and ground water.
