First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Move to fresh air. Do not leave the victim unattended. Keep patient warm and at rest. Seek immediate medical attention. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen if possible or assisted ventilation (do not use mouth to mouth). If unconscious place in recovery position.

Skin contact

Take off all contaminated clothing and shoes. Immediately flush affected area with plenty of soap and water – continue for at least 15 minutes. If there are signs of irritation or other symptoms seek medical attention.

Eye contact

Remove any contact lenses. Flush eyes with water thoroughly and continuously for at least 15 minutes. Keep eye wide open while rinsing. Protect unharmed eye. If there are signs of irritation or other symptoms seek medical attention.

Ingestion

Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Do not give milk or alcoholic beverages. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Seek medical attention if discomfort occurs.

Immediate Medical Attention

Seek immediate medical attention (inhalation). Seek medical attention if there are signs of irritation or other symptoms (skin/eyes). Seek medical attention if discomfort occurs (ingestion).

Medical Treatment

Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions)

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

LARGE FIRE: Use water spray, water fog or foam. SMALL FIRE: Dry powder or carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguisher, dry sand or fire-fighting foam.

Unsuitable media

Direct water jet. Simultaneous use of foam and water on the same surface is to be avoided as water destroys the foam.

Specific hazards

Vapour is denser than air – flashback may be possible over considerable distances. Containers may explode under fire conditions.

Instructions

use water spray to cool unopened containers.

Firefighter Protection

Wear an approved positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus in addition to standard fire-fighting gear.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Eliminate all sources of ignition. Wear personal protective equipment. Avoid breathing vapours or mist. Keep unnecessary people away. Ensure adequate ventilation and absence of sources of ignition.

Environmental

This material is a static accumulator. The pressure is not always used. The pressure is not always used for the second time.

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited. Use only in well ventilated areas. Avoid all sources of ignition. Use proper bonding and/or grounding procedures. This material is a static accumulator: Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Avoid contact with heat and ignition sources and oxidizing agents. Containers should be opened only under exhaust ventilation hood. Do not allow splash filling of bulk volumes. Do not use compressed air for filling, discharging or handling. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, or grind on containers. Handle empty containers with care; vapour residue may be flammable.

Storage

Store in a designated cool and well-ventilated place. Store in the original, tightly closed, container. Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Keep container tightly closed and properly labelled.

Hygiene

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Wash hands, forearms and face thoroughly after handling chemical products, before eating, smoking and using the lavatory and at the end of the working period. Appropriate techniques should be used to remove potentially contaminated clothing. Wash contaminated clothing before reusing. Ensure that eyewash is available.

Fire prevention

Avoid all sources of ignition. Use proper bonding and/or grounding procedures. This material is a static accumulator: Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Avoid contact with heat and ignition sources.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Provide local exhaust or general room ventilation to minimize exposure to vapors. The engineering controls also need to keep gas, vapour or dust concentrations below any lower explosive limits. Use explosion-proof ventilation equipment.

Hands

Chemical-resistant, impervious gloves complying with an approved standard should be worn at all times when handling chemical products if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary. After contamination with product change the gloves immediately and dispose of them according to relevant national and local regulations <1 hours (breakthrough time): Viton or Nitrile rubber - NBR

Eyes

Safety eyewear complying with an approved standard should be used when a risk assessment indicates this is necessary to avoid exposure to liquid splashes, mists, gases or dusts. Recommended: Tightly fitting safety goggles.

Respiratory

Use a properly fitted, air-purifying or air-fed respirator complying with an approved standard if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary. Respirator selection must be based on known or anticipated exposure levels, the hazards of the product and the safe working limits of the selected respirator. Recommended: organic vapour filter (Type AX)

Skin/Body

Personal protective equipment for the body should be selected based on the task being performed and the risks involved and should be approved by a specialist before handling this product.

Environmental

Avoid discharge into the environment. According to local regulations, Federal and official regulations.
