First Aid Measures
Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents
Remove from further exposure. For those providing assistance, avoid exposure to yourself or others. Use adequate respiratory protection. If breathing has stopped, assist ventilation with a mechanical device or use mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Get medical attention immediately.
Symptoms: respiratory tract irritation, dizziness, nausea, or unconsciousness
Remove contaminated clothing immediately and wash skin with soap and water. In case of eczema or other skin disorders: Seek medical attention and take along these instructions.
Symptoms: Skin irritation. May cause redness and pain. May cause an allergic skin reaction. Dermatitis. Rash.
Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists.
Symptoms: Severe eye irritation. Symptoms may include stinging, tearing, redness, swelling, and blurred vision.
In the unlikely event of swallowing contact a physician or poison control center. Rinse mouth. Do not induce vomiting without advice from poison control center. If vomiting occurs, keep head low so that stomach content doesn't get into the lungs.
Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting
Immediate Medical Attention
Get medical attention immediately (inhalation). Seek medical attention (skin). Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists (eye). Contact a physician or poison control center (ingestion). Keep victim under observation.
Medical Treatment
Provide general supportive measures and treat symptomatically.
Firefighting Measures
Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection
Water fog. Alcohol resistant foam. Dry chemical powder. Carbon dioxide (CO2).
Do not use water jet as an extinguisher, as this will spread the fire.
Contents under pressure. Pressurized container may explode when exposed to heat or flame.
In case of fire: Stop leak if safe to do so. Move containers from fire area if you can do so without risk. Containers should be cooled with water to prevent vapor pressure build up. Fight fire from protected location or safe distance. For massive fire in cargo area, use unmanned hose holder or monitor nozzles, if possible. If not, withdraw and let fire burn out.
Firefighter Protection
Firefighters must use standard protective equipment including flame retardant coat, helmet with face shield, gloves, rubber boots, and in enclosed spaces, SCBA.
Accidental Release Measures
Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection
Stop leak if you can do so without risk. Move the cylinder to a safe and open area if the leak is irreparable. Isolate area until gas has dispersed. Ventilate closed spaces before entering them.
Avoid release to the environment. Inform appropriate managerial or supervisory personnel of all environmental releases. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Avoid discharge into drains, water courses or onto the ground.
Pick up undamaged aerosol cans mechanically. Absorb in vermiculite, dry sand or earth and place into containers. Scoop up used absorbent into drums or other appropriate container. Following product recovery, flush area with water.
Materials: vermiculite, dry sand or earth
