First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Symptoms: Inhalation of high vapor concentrations may cause symptoms like headache, dizziness, tiredness, nausea and vomiting.

Skin contact

Wash off immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. If skin irritation persists, call a physician.

Symptoms: May cause allergic skin reaction. Symptoms of allergic reaction may include rash, itching, swelling, trouble breathing, tingling of the hands and feet, dizziness, lightheadedness, chest pain, muscle pain or flushing.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention.

Symptoms: Causes severe eye damage.

Ingestion

Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Immediate Medical Attention

Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Water spray, carbon dioxide (CO2), dry chemical, alcohol-resistant foam. Water mist may be used to cool closed containers.

Unsuitable media

No information available.

Specific hazards

Flammable. Containers may explode when heated. Fine dust dispersed in air may ignite. Combustible material.

Firefighter Protection

As in any fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent) and full protective gear.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid dust formation. Remove all sources of ignition. Take precautionary measures against static discharges.

Environmental

Should not be released into the environment.

Cleanup methods

Sweep up and shovel into suitable containers for disposal.

Materials: suitable containers

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Wear personal protective equipment/face protection. Avoid dust formation. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Avoid ingestion and inhalation. Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.

Storage

Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame.

Hygiene

Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Avoid ingestion and inhalation.

Fire prevention

Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Use only under a chemical fume hood. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location. Use explosion-proof electrical/ventilating/lighting equipment. Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas. Wherever possible, engineering control measures such as the isolation or enclosure of the process, the introduction of process or equipment changes to minimise release or contact, and the use of properly designed ventilation systems, should be adopted to control hazardous materials at source.

Hands

Protective gloves. Gloves material: Natural rubber, Nitrile rubber, Neoprene, PVC. Breakthrough time: See manufacturers recommendations. EU standard: EN 374. Inspect gloves before use. Please observe the instructions regarding permeability and breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. Ensure gloves are suitable for the task: Chemical compatability, Dexterity, Operational conditions, User susceptibility, e.g. sensitisation effects, also take into consideration the specific local conditions under which the product is used, such as the danger of cuts, abrasion. Remove gloves with care avoiding skin contamination.

Eyes

Goggles (European standard - EN 166)

Respiratory

When workers are facing concentrations above the exposure limit they must use appropriate certified respirators. To protect the wearer, respiratory protective equipment must be the correct fit and be used and maintained properly. Large scale/emergency use: Use a NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 136 approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if irritation or other symptoms are experienced. Recommended Filter type: Particulates filter conforming to EN 143. Small scale/Laboratory use: Use a NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 149:2001 approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if irritation or other symptoms are experienced. Recommended half mask: Particle filtering: EN149:2001. When RPE is used a face piece Fit Test should be conducted.
