First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Do not use mouth-to-mouth method if victim ingested or inhaled the substance; give artificial respiration with the aid of a pocket mask equipped with a one-way valve or other proper respiratory medical device.

Skin contact

Wash off immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth. Drink 1 or 2 glasses of water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Do NOT induce vomiting.

Symptoms: Ingestion causes severe swelling, severe damage to the delicate tissue and danger of perforation

Immediate Medical Attention

Immediate medical attention is required for all exposure routes. Call a physician or poison control center immediately for ingestion.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Substance is nonflammable; use agent most appropriate to extinguish surrounding fire.

Unsuitable media

Water.

Specific hazards

Corrosive material. Reacts violently with water. Reaction with water may generate much heat which will increase the concentration of fumes in the air. Contact with metals may evolve flammable hydrogen gas. Non-combustible, substance itself does not burn but may decompose upon heating to produce corrosive and/or toxic fumes.

Firefighter Protection

As in any fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent) and full protective gear.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Use personal protective equipment as required. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing.

Environmental

Avoid release to the environment. See Section 12 for additional Ecological Information.

Cleanup methods

Soak up with inert absorbent material. Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal. After cleaning, flush away traces with water.

Materials: inert absorbent material

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Handle product only in closed system or provide appropriate exhaust ventilation. Wear personal protective equipment/face protection. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Do not breathe (dust, vapor, mist, gas). Do not ingest. If swallowed then seek immediate medical assistance.

Storage

Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.

Hygiene

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Keep away from food, drink and animal feeding stuffs. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product. Remove and wash contaminated clothing and gloves, including the inside, before re-use. Wash hands before breaks and after work.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Handle in a place equipped with local exhaust ventilation. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location. Wherever possible, engineering control measures such as the isolation or enclosure of the process, the introduction of process or equipment changes to minimise release or contact, and the use of properly designed ventilation systems, should be adopted to control hazardous materials at source

Hands

Protective gloves. Glove material: Butyl rubber, Breakthrough time: >= 120 minutes, Glove thickness: 0.5 mm, EU standard: EN 374 (minimum requirement). Viton (R), Breakthrough time: > 480 minutes, Glove thickness: 0.4 mm.

Eyes

Goggles or Face protection shield (European standard - EN 166)

Respiratory

When workers are facing concentrations above the exposure limit they must use appropriate certified respirators. To protect the wearer, respiratory protective equipment must be the correct fit and be used and maintained properly. Large scale/emergency use: Use a NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 136 approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if irritation or other symptoms are experienced. Recommended Filter type: Particulates filter conforming to EN 143 Acid gases filter Type E Yellow conforming to EN14387. Small scale/Laboratory use: Use a NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 149:2001 approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if irritation or other symptoms are experienced. Recommended half mask:- Valve filtering: EN405; or; Half mask: EN140; plus filter, EN 141. When RPE is used a face piece Fit Test should be conducted

Skin/Body

Wear appropriate protective gloves and clothing to prevent skin exposure. Inspect gloves before use. observe the instructions regarding permeability and breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. (Refer to manufacturer/supplier for information) gloves are suitable for the task: Chemical compatibility, Dexterity, Operational conditions, User susceptibility, e.g. sensitisation effects, also take into consideration the specific local conditions under which the product is used, such as the danger of cuts, abrasion. gloves with care avoiding skin contamination.
