First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Move to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

Skin contact

Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water removing all contaminated clothes and shoes. If skin irritation persists, call a physician.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. If symptoms persist, call a physician. Keep eye wide open while rinsing.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth. Drink plenty of water. Do NOT induce vomiting. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Consult a physician if necessary

Immediate Medical Attention

Immediate medical attention is required.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Dry chemical. Carbon dioxide (CO₂). Foam.

Unsuitable media

Water.

Specific hazards

Most vapors are heavier than air. They will spread along ground and collect in low or confined areas (sewers, basements, tanks).

Firefighter Protection

As in any fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective gear.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Remove all sources of ignition. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Ensure adequate ventilation. Use personal protective equipment. Stop leak if you can do it without risk.

Small spill

Use a non-combustible material like vermiculite, sand or earth to soak up the product and place into a container for later disposal.

Large spill

Pump or vacuum transfer spilled product to clean containers for recovery. Absorb unrecoverable product.

Environmental

Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

Cleanup methods

Use a non-combustible material like vermiculite, sand or earth to soak up the product and place into a container for later disposal. Pump or vacuum transfer spilled product to clean containers for recovery. Absorb unrecoverable product.

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Use only in an area containing flame proof equipment. To avoid ignition of vapors by static electricity discharge, all metal parts of the equipment must be grounded. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Empty containers pose a potential fire and explosion hazard. Do not cut, puncture or weld containers.

Storage

Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place.

Hygiene

When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Provide regular cleaning of equipment, work area and clothing.

Fire prevention

Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Use only in an area containing flame proof equipment.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas.

Hands

Chemical resistant gloves

Eyes

Safety glasses with side-shields. If splashes are likely to occur, wear: Chemical splash goggles.

Respiratory

No special protective equipment required. If exposure limits are exceeded or irritation is experienced, approved respiratory protection should be worn.

Skin/Body

Risk of contact: Boots. Apron.

Environmental

Do not allow material to contaminate ground water system.
