First Aid Measures
Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents
Overbrengen naar de frisse lucht. Pas geassisteerde ademhaling toe als de ademhaling tot stilstand is gekomen of bij zware ademhaling. Ook moet mogelijk extra zuurstof worden toegediend. Als het hart tot stilstand is gekomen, moet getraind personeel onmiddellijk overgaan tot cardiopulmonaire resuscitatie. In geval van ademnood zuurstof toedienen.
Symptoms: Blootstelling aan atmosferen met onvoldoende zuurstof kan de volgende symptomen veroorzaken: Duizeligheid. Vorming van speeksel. Misselijkheid. Braken. Verlies van bewustzijn.
Raadpleeg een arts in geval van rechtstreeks contact met de ogen.
Immediate Medical Attention
Als stikstofmonoxide en stikstofdioxide ingeademd werden waardoor longbeschadiging ontstond, moet er een longspecialist gecontacteerd worden. Na (mogelijke) blootstelling: raadpleeg een arts.
Medical Treatment
Door het opnemen van stikstofmonoxide kan zich methemoglobine vormen en een fractieconversie van 10% mag men beschouwen als "lila"-blauwzucht. Een hoog niveau van conversie (>35-40%) kan een teken zijn dat een behandeling met intraveneus blauw methyleen of een transfusie nodig is. Stikstofmonoxide en stikstofdioxide, waarmee het reageert, zijn stoffen die de longen ernstig irriteren en die chemische longontsteking en longoedeem veroorzaken die dikwijls laat optreden. Longbeschadigingen die veroorzaakt worden door inademing van stikstofmonoxides kunnen gepaard gaan met bacteriële infecties van de luchtwegen en vertraagde bronchiolitis. Als stikstofmonoxide en stikstofdioxide ingeademd werden waardoor longbeschadiging ontstond, moet er een longspecialist gecontacteerd worden. Na (mogelijke) blootstelling: raadpleeg een arts.

Exposure Controls / PPE
Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment
Zorg voor een natuurlijke of mechanische ventilatie zodat er geen tekort aan zuurstof optreedt in de atmosfeer (onder de 19,5% zuurstof).
Draag werkhandschoenen bij het hanteren van gasflessen. Standaard EN 388 - Handschoenen tegen mechanische gevaren.
Het is aangeraden een veiligheidsbril te dragen bij het werken met de cilinders (flessen). Standaard EN 166 - oogbescherming.
Een persluchtapparaat of ademlucht met positieve druk en masker moeten gebruikt worden in een omgeving met tekort aan zuurstof. Ademhalingstoestellen die de lucht zuiveren bieden geen bescherming. Gebruikers van ademhalingsapparatuur (perslucht) moeten geoefend zijn.
Tijdens het werken met cilinders is het aangeraden veiligheidsschoenen te dragen. Standaard EN ISO 20345 - Persoonlijke beschermingsmiddelen : Veiligheidsschoeisel.
