First Aid Measures
Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents
Slachtoffer direct in de frisse lucht brengen. Bij ademhalingsmoeilijkheden, kunstmatige beademing/zuurstof.
Onmiddellijk wegwassen en besmette huid met water afspoelen. Doordrenkte kleding onmiddellijk verwijderen en huid met water afspoelen. Medische hulp inroepen. Verontreinigde kleding wassen alvorens deze opnieuw te gebruiken.
Onmiddellijk spoelen met veel water, ook onder de oogleden, gedurende tenminste 15 minuten. Medische hulp inroepen.
Een of twee glazen water geven indien getroffene bewust is en kan slikken. Onmiddellijke medische hulp vragen. Indien medische hulp niet onmiddellijk beschikbaar is, een plaatselijk antigifcentrum of een professionele medische nooddienst raadplegen betreffende het toedienen van geactiveerde kool of ipecacuanhasiroop (braakwortelsiroop). Getroffene niet doen braken.
Medical Treatment
Door de therapeutische intraveneuse toediening van ethanol (10 ml per uur), wordt ethanol bij voorkeur geoxideerd en wordt de productie van methanol metabolieten gereduceerd. Acidose moet behandeld worden door intraveneus toedienen van natriumbicarbonaat, en de eliminatie van methanol kan verhoogd worden door hemodialyse, zoals aangegeven. De behandeling dient gebaseerd te zijn op methanolconcentratie in het bloed en het zuur-base evenwicht. Folaten kunnen toegediend worden om het metabolisme van formaldehyde te bevorderen.
