First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

In case of accident by inhalation: remove casualty to fresh air and keep at rest. If unconscious place in recovery position and seek medical advice. In case of irregular breathing or respiratory arrest provide artificial respiration. In case of allergic symptoms, especially in the breathing area, seek medical advice immediately.

Symptoms: Headache, drowsiness, unconsciousness.

Skin contact

After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. In case of skin irritation, seek medical treatment.

Symptoms: dehydration of skin.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately carefully and thoroughly with eye-bath or water. In case of troubles or persistent symptoms, consult an ophthalmologist.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth thoroughly with water. Let water be drunken in little sips (dilution effect). Do NOT induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately.

Immediate Medical Attention

Treat symptomatically.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Carbon dioxide (CO2). Dry extinguishing powder. alcohol resistant foam. Atomized water.

Unsuitable media

High power water jet.

Specific hazards

In use, may form flammable/explosive vapour-air mixture. Concentrated vapours are heavier than air. Reignition possible over considerable distance.

Instructions

In case of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes. Use water spray jet to protect personnel and to cool endangered containers. Co-ordinate fire-fighting measures to the fire surroundings.

Firefighter Protection

Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing. In case of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Ventilate affected area. Remove all sources of ignition. Do not breathe gas/fumes/vapour/spray. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes. Wear personal protection equipment.

Environmental

Do not allow to enter into surface water or drains. Due to danger of explosion, prevent leakage of vapours into cellars, flues and ditches. Prevent spread over a wide area (e.g. by containment or oil barriers). In case of gas - escape or of entry into waterways, soil or drains, inform the responsible authorities.

Cleanup methods

Absorb with liquid-binding material (e.g. sand, diatomaceous earth, acid- or universal binding agents). Clean contaminated objects and areas thoroughly observing environmental regulations.

Materials: liquid-binding material (e.g. sand, diatomaceous earth, acid- or universal binding agents).

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Use only in well-ventilated areas. Do not spray on naked flames or any incandescent material. Due to danger of explosion, prevent leakage of vapours into cellars, flues and ditches. Flammable vapours can accumulate in head space of closed systems.

Storage

Keep/Store only in original container. Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Ensure adequate ventilation of the storage area. Recommended storage temperature: 15-25°C. Protect against: UV-radiation/sunlight, heat, cold, moisture. Keep away from sources of ignition. - No smoking. Heating causes rise in pressure with risk of bursting.

Fire prevention

Keep away from sources of ignition. - No smoking. Heating causes rise in pressure with risk of bursting. Take precautionary measures against static discharges.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

If local exhaust ventilation is not possible or not sufficient, the entire working area should be ventilated by technical means.

Hands

Pull-over gloves of rubber. Suitable material: NBR (Nitrile rubber). FKM (fluororubber). The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374 derived from it. Before using check leak tightness / impermeability. In the case of wanting to use the gloves again, clean them before taking off and air them well.

Eyes

Wear safety glasses; chemical goggles (if splashing is possible).

Respiratory

With correct and proper use, and under normal conditions, breathing protection is not required. Respiratory protection necessary at: exceeding exposure limit values insufficient ventilation. short term (single use).: Suitable respiratory protective equipment: Combination filter device (DIN EN 141).. Type A/P3 Long Term (continuous).: Suitable respiratory protective equipment: Protective respiration apparatus not using surrounding air (breathing apparatus) (DIN EN 133). Use only respiratory protection equipment with CE-symbol including four digit test number. Observe the wear time limits according GefStoffV in combination with the rules for using respiratory protection apparatus (BGR 190). The filter class must be suitable for the maximum contaminant concentration (gas/vapour/aerosol/particulates) that may arise when handling the product. If the concentration is exceeded, closed-circuit breathing apparatus must be used!

Skin/Body

Protective clothing.

Environmental

Do not allow to enter into surface water or drains.
