First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

If breathing is irregular or stopped, immediately seek medical assistance and start first aid actions. Provide fresh air.

Skin contact

Rinse skin with water/shower.

Eye contact

Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Irrigate copiously with clean, fresh water, holding the eyelids apart.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth. Do not induce vomiting.

Immediate Medical Attention

If breathing is irregular or stopped, immediately seek medical assistance and start first aid actions. In all cases of doubt, or when symptoms persist, seek medical advice. Treatment of the symptoms.

Medical Treatment

Treatment of the symptoms.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Water spray, BC-powder, Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Unsuitable media

Water jet

Specific hazards

Non-combustible. In case of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes.

Instructions

Co-ordinate firefighting measures to the fire surroundings. Fight fire with normal precautions from a reasonable distance.

Firefighter Protection

In case of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

For non-emergency personnel: Remove persons to safety. For emergency responders: Wear breathing apparatus if exposed to vapours/dust/spray/gases.

Environmental

Keep away from drains, surface and ground water. Retain contaminated washing water and dispose of it.

Cleanup methods

Wipe up with absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece). Collect spillage. Place in appropriate containers for disposal. Ventilate affected area.

Materials: absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece), sawdust, kieselgur (diatomite), sand, universal binder

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Use local and general ventilation. Use only in well-ventilated areas. Wash hands after use. Do not eat, drink and smoke in work areas. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas. Never keep food or drink in the vicinity of chemicals. Never place chemicals in containers that are normally used for food or drink. Keep away from food, drink and animal feedingstuffs.

Storage

No particular measures required.

Hygiene

Wash hands after use. Do not eat, drink and smoke in work areas. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas. Never keep food or drink in the vicinity of chemicals. Never place chemicals in containers that are normally used for food or drink. Keep away from food, drink and animal feedingstuffs.

Fire prevention

Use local and general ventilation. Use only in well-ventilated areas.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

General ventilation.

Hands

Wear suitable gloves. Chemical protection gloves are suitable, which are tested according to EN 374. Check leak-tightness/impermeability prior to use. For special purposes, it is recommended to check the resistance to chemicals of the protective gloves mentioned above together with the supplier of these gloves. In case of spray contact at least protection index 2 recommended, according to more than 30 min. penetration time (EN 374). Layer thickness of gloves at least: 0.4 mm. In case of prolonged and intensive contact protection index 6 recommended, according to more than 480 min. penetration time (EN 374). Layer thickness of gloves at least: 0.7 mm. Type of material: PVC: polyvinyl chloride, PE: polyethylene, CR: chloroprene (chlorobutadiene) rubber, NBR: acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber, IIR: isobutene-isoprene (butyl) rubber, FKM: fluoro-elastomer. Breakthrough times and swelling properties of the material must be taken into consideration

Eyes

Wear eye/face protection.

Respiratory

Not necessary under normal conditions and provided good general ventilation.

Skin/Body

Wear suitable working clothes.

Environmental

Use appropriate container to avoid environmental contamination. Keep away from drains, surface and ground water.
