First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

If breathing is difficult, remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Get medical advice/attention if you feel unwell.

Symptoms: irritation of nose, cough and/or shortness of breath

Skin contact

In case of contact, wash skin with plenty of water.

Symptoms: skin irritation or redness

Eye contact

In case of contact, flush eyes with plenty of water. Remove contact lenses, if worn. If irritation persists, get medical attention.

Symptoms: irritation of eyes

Ingestion

If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical advice/attention.

Immediate Medical Attention

Immediate medical attention should not be required.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Dry chemical or CO2.

Unsuitable media

None: Use extinguishing agent suitable for type of surrounding fire.

Specific hazards

Products of combustion may include, and are not limited to: oxides of carbon. Some may burn but none ignite readily. Containers may explode when heated. Ruptured cylinders may rocket.

Instructions

In Case of Large Fire: Water spray, fog or regular foam. Move containers from fire area if you can do it without risk. Damaged cylinders should be handled only by specialists.

Firefighter Protection

Keep upwind of fire. Vapors may cause dizziness or asphyxiation without warning. Vapors from liquefied gas are initially heavier than air and spread along ground. Contact with gas or liquefied gas may cause burns, severe injury and/or frostbite. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Wear positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Wear chemical protective clothing that is specifically recommended by the manufacturer. It may provide little or no thermal protection. Structural firefighters’ protective clothing will only provide limited protection.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Isolate the hazard area and deny entry to unnecessary and unprotected personnel. Do not touch or walk through spilled material. Stop leak if you can do it without risk. Do not direct water at spill or source of leak. Use water spray to reduce vapors or divert vapor cloud drift. Avoid allowing water runoff to contact spilled material. If possible, turn leaking containers so that gas escapes rather than liquid.

Environmental

Report spills as required by local and national regulations. Prevent entry into storm sewers and waterways.

Cleanup methods

Allow substance to evaporate. Ventilate the area.
