First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove victim into fresh air. In case of respiratory problems, consult a doctor/medical service.

Symptoms: ON OVERHEATING: Irritation of the respiratory tract. Coughing. Headache. Nausea. Dizziness.

Skin contact

If possible, wipe up/dry remove chemical. Then rinse/shower immediately with (lukewarm) water.

Symptoms: If molten: burns.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with (lukewarm) water. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. If irritation persists, consult a doctor/medical service.

Symptoms: ON OVERHEATING: Irritation of the eye tissue. Redness of the eye tissue. If molten: burns.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth with water. If you feel unwell, consult a doctor/medical service. Do not wait for symptoms to occur to consult Poison Center.

Symptoms: No effects known.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Small fire: Quick-acting ABC powder extinguisher, Class A foam extinguisher, Water (quick-acting extinguisher, reel). Major fire: Water, Class A foam.

Unsuitable media

Small fire: Quick-acting BC powder extinguisher, Quick-acting CO2 extinguisher.

Specific hazards

On burning: release of toxic and corrosive gases/vapours (nitrous vapours, sulphur oxides, carbon monoxide - carbon dioxide). On heating: release of toxic/corrosive/combustible gases/vapours (formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acetic acid vapours).

Instructions

If exposed to fire cool the closed containers by spraying with water. Dilute toxic gases with water spray. Take account of toxic/corrosive precipitation water.

Firefighter Protection

Gloves. Protective clothing. Heat/fire exposure: self-contained breathing apparatus.

06

Accidental Release Measures
