First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Move to fresh air. If symptoms call a physician. If unconscious, place in recovery position and seek medical advice. If not breathing, if breathing is irregular or if respiratory arrest occurs, provide artificial respiration or oxygen by trained personnel.

Symptoms: respiratory tract irritation

Skin contact

Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water. Call a physician immediately.

Symptoms: severe skin burns, allergic reaction

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 10 minutes. Protect unharmed eye. Consult an eye specialist immediately. Go to an ophthalmic hospital if possible.

Symptoms: irreversible eye damage, severe eye damage

Ingestion

Rinse the mouth and spit the fluids out. Do NOT induce vomiting. If a person vomits when lying on his back, place him in the recovery position. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Call a physician immediately.

Firefighting Measures

Suitable media

Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment. Water spray, foam, dry powder or CO2.

Handling

Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Wear personal protective equipment. Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms. Emergency eye wash fountains and emergency showers should be available in the immediate vicinity. Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes. Avoid formation of aerosol. Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Hands

Wear suitable gloves. As the product is a mixture of several substances, the durability of the glove materials cannot be calculated in advance and has to be tested before use. The choice of an appropriate glove does not only depend on its material but also on other quality features and is different from one producer to the other. To achieve a sufficient splashguard (min. break through time 10 min - 60 min) the following combination of gloves is recommended: combination of HPPE laminated film (glove thickness: 0.062 mm) and a two-layer glove consisting of nitrile rubber as coating material (glove thickness: 0.4 mm) and nylon as support material. Protective gloves should be replaced at first signs of wear.

Eyes

Tightly fitting safety goggles

Respiratory

Required, if exposure limit is exceeded (e.g. OEL). Required if vapours or aerosol are released. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Recommended Filter type: Combination filter: A-P2 In case of brief exposure or low pollution use respiratory filter device. In case of intensive or longer exposure use respiratory protective device that is independent of circulating air.

Skin/Body

Impervious clothing, alkali resistant protective clothing
