First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Not relevant.

Symptoms: Not relevant.

Skin contact

Wash thoroughly with water and soap.

Eye contact

Rinse out eye with a soft cloth, if necessary use water or eye shower. Consult ophthalmologist if irritation persists.

Symptoms: Seldom delayed eye irritation possible (foreign body sensation).

Ingestion

Only in case of very big amounts: Do not induce vomiting. Rinse out mouth with plenty of water and drink amply water (two dinking glasses). In the case of feeling unwell consult medical service.

Medical Treatment

Symptomatic treatment.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Oil resistant foam (AFFF), extinguish powder (BC) for flammable liquids, powder or liquid carbon dioxide (CO2)-fire-extinguisher, water spray.

Unsuitable media

Solid water jet, liquid burning product may be dispersed.

Specific hazards

Dust/smog or combustion gases are heavier-than-air and may be concentrated on bottom, in trenches, canals, drains or cellars.

Instructions

The fire fighting measures necessary have to be co-ordinated with the local administration and adapted to the environmental conditions. Use water spray to protect persons and to cool tanks, vessels or other reservoirs in the range of dangers.

Firefighter Protection

Personal protective suit and protective breathing apparatus (independent form ambient atmosphere). Do not breath explosion gases or/and fire gases.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Keep off the range of dangers and inform trained emergency personnel. Do not take any personal risk. Do not breathe vapour/aerosols. Avoid contact to skin and eyes. Attend emergency plan! Activate information chain and follow it.

Large spill

Inform immediately administration/ fire brigade/police if in bigger amounts the product infiltrated a sewage system or a water body.

Environmental

Pick up spilled material dry. Avoid infiltration of product into sewage systems/water bodies/ground earth.

Cleanup methods

Pick up spilled material dry.

Materials: industrial cleaner for oil/fat

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Use personal protection equipment. (See also section 8.)

Storage

The product reacts slowly with air (partial vacuum can be generated). Hold containment tight closed. Storage dry at a well ventilated place. Optimal temperature for storage: solid 5 to 25 °C, liquid at melting point.

Hygiene

Realise access only for authorised persons. Avoid contact to skin and eyes. Separate strictly area for working and for non-working time. Observe continuously labelling regulations. Realise good ventilation in the working area. Make sure, that every time the cleaning of the working area is possible.

Fire prevention

Keep off hot liquid or sprayed product from heat or ignition sources, realise measure against electrostatic charge, avoid concentration of dust/vapour in the air. (See also section 5.)

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Usable technical handling equipment and control unit have to be designed in such a way, that it is avoided widely the contact of workers (respiratory tract, eyes, skin) to the product and there is no trapping hazard by vapour-air-mixes, electrostatic charge and other ignition sources. (See also Article 4-6 of Directive 98/24/EC, Article 3-5 of Directive 2004/37/EC). Technical protection measures take priority over individual protection measures.

Hands

Prevent protection by skin cream, protection gloves (or gauntlets if necessary, material: nitrile, chloroprene or fluoro rubber, 0.11 mm, breakthrough time > 8 h. Make leak test before use.

Eyes

Use safety goggles with side protection or face protection shield (safety glass or polycarbonate).

Respiratory

Can be potentially necessary in case of generation of dust/vapour. For average pollution use filters for organic gases and vapours (type A). In case of higher concentration of product in the air (e.g. fire) use protective breathing apparatus (independent form ambient atmosphere). Take time limits for the users into account.

Skin/Body

The normal working clothes have to be adapted to the workplace and the related hazards (e.g. flame retardant suit, chemical resistant suit, antistatic protection suit). Change immediately contaminated clothing. Put on anti-slip and antistatic protection shoes/boots.

Environmental

Do not release material into environment. Avoid environmental exposure by technical und organisational measures.
