First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

If breathing is difficult, remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Seek medical treatment in case of troubles.

Symptoms: Inhaling can lead to irritations of the respiratory tract and mucous membrane.

Skin contact

Immediately clean with water and soap followed by thorough rinsing. In case of skin reactions, consult a physician.

Symptoms: Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking.

Eye contact

Immediately flush eyes with plenty of flowing water for 10 to 15 minutes holding eyelids apart. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. In case of troubles or persistent symptoms, consult an ophthalmologist.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth immediately and drink plenty of water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Do not induce vomiting. Immediately get medical attention.

Symptoms: Aspiration hazard: in case of swallowing or vomiting danger of penetration into the lungs.

Immediate Medical Attention

Immediately get medical attention.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Water spray jet, extinguishing powder, carbon dioxide. In case of major fire and large quantities: water spray jet, alcohol resistant foam.

Unsuitable media

Full water jet.

Specific hazards

Highly flammable liquid and vapour. Air combined with vapours may form potentially explosive mixtures that are heavier than air. Vapours may proceed on the ground over great distances and cause fire and backflashes. May form dangerous gases and vapours in case of fire.

Instructions

Move undamaged containers from immediate hazard area if it can be done safely. In case of major fire and large quantities: Fight fire remotely due to the risk of explosion.

Firefighter Protection

Wear self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus and full firefighting protective clothing. Cool endangered containers with water spray jet.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Avoid breathing mist/vapours/spray. Avoid contact with the substance. In case of leakage, eliminate all ignition sources. If possible, eliminate leakage. Provide adequate ventilation. Wear appropriate protective equipment. Keep unprotected people away. Take off contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse. Cordon off downwind area at risk and warn inhabitants.

Large spill

Collect mechanically (use only explosion-proof equipment when pumping out).

Environmental

Do not allow to enter into ground-water, surface water or drains.

Cleanup methods

Collect it for disposal in appropriate containers in accordance with the local regulations (see section 13).

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Provide adequate ventilation, and local exhaust as needed. Avoid breathing mist/vapours/spray. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Wear appropriate protective equipment.

Storage

Keep container tightly closed and in a well-ventilated place. Keep container dry. Keep only in the original container. Protect from heat and direct sunlight. Store containers in upright position.

Hygiene

Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Take off contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse.

Fire prevention

Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Take action to prevent static discharges.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Provide for good ventilation or exhaust system or work with completely self-contained equipment. Explosion protection required.

Hands

Protective gloves according to I.S. EN ISO 374-1. Glove material: Nitrile rubber, solvent resistant. Observe glove manufacturer's instructions concerning penetrability and breakthrough time.

Eyes

Tightly sealed goggles according to I.S. EN ISO 16321-1.

Respiratory

Respiratory protection must be worn whenever the WEL levels have been exceeded. In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection. The filter class must be suitable for the maximum contaminant concentration (gas/vapour/aerosol/particulates) that may arise when handling the product. If the concentration is exceeded, self-contained breathing apparatus must be used. Recommendation: For short or minimal exposure: air purifying respirator (Use combination filter type A-P2 according to EN 14387.); for longer exposure: supplied air respirator.

Skin/Body

Wear suitable protective clothing. In case of handling larger quantities: Flame retardant, antistatic and chemical resistant protective clothing.

Environmental

Refer to "6.2 Environmental precautions".
