First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Provide fresh air. Medical treatment necessary. Remove casualty to fresh air and keep warm and at rest. In case of irregular breathing or respiratory arrest provide artificial respiration. In all cases of doubt, or when symptoms persist, seek medical advice.

Skin contact

After contact with skin, wash immediately with polyethylene glycol, followed by plenty of water. If skin irritation occurs: Get medical advice/attention. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse. Wash with plenty of soap and water. Do not use solvents or thinner.

Symptoms: skin irritation

Eye contact

After eye contact: Rinse immediately carefully and thoroughly with eye-bath or water. Consult an ophthalmologist. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth immediately and drink plenty of water. Induce vomiting when the affected person is not unconscious. Call a physician immediately. Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Rinse mouth thoroughly with water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person or a person with cramps. Do NOT induce vomiting. Seek medical advice immediately.

Immediate Medical Attention

Call a physician immediately. Consult an ophthalmologist. Medical treatment necessary.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Co-ordinate fire-fighting measures to the fire surroundings. In case of fire, use extinguishing powder or sand.

Unsuitable media

High power water jet.

Specific hazards

Non-flammable. Thermal decomposition can lead to the escape of irritating gases and vapours.

Instructions

Cool closed containers exposed to fire with water spray. Suppress gases/vapours/mists with water spray jet.

Firefighter Protection

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Provide adequate ventilation. Avoid generation of dust. Do not breathe dust. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes. Use personal protection equipment. In case of fire: Evacuate area.

Environmental

Do not allow to enter into surface water or drains. Do not empty into drains; dispose of this material and its container in a safe way.

Cleanup methods

Absorb with liquid-binding material. Collect in closed and suitable containers for disposal. Clean floors and contaminated objects with: Water, if necessary together with cleansing agents.

Materials: liquid-binding material (e.g. sand, diatomaceous earth, acid- or universal binding agents)

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Avoid generation of dust. Do not breathe dust. When using do not eat, drink, smoke, sniff. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes.

Storage

Keep container tightly closed. Never use pressure to empty container. Restrict access to stockrooms. Containers which are opened carefully and kept upright to prevent leakage.

Hygiene

When using do not eat, drink, smoke, sniff.

Fire prevention

Keep away from sources of ignition. - No smoking.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

If handled uncovered, arrangements with local exhaust ventilation have to be used. Provide adequate ventilation.

Hands

When handling with chemical substances, protective gloves must be worn with the CE-label including the four control digits. The quality of the protective gloves resistant to chemicals must be chosen as a function of the specific working place concentration and quantity of hazardous substances. For special purposes, it is recommended to check the resistance to chemicals of the protective gloves mentioned above together with the supplier of these gloves. Wear suitable gloves. For special purposes, it is recommended to check the resistance to chemicals of the protective gloves mentioned above together with the supplier of these gloves. Handling with gloves that meet the EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374, in a departure from this policy.

Eyes

Face shield and safety glasses Use equipment for eye protection tested and approved under appropriate government standards such as NIOSH (US) or EN 166(EU).

Respiratory

In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection. Use appropriate respiratory protection.

Skin/Body

Wear suitable protective clothing.
