First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove exposed person to fresh air if adverse effects are observed.

Skin contact

Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. Wash with soap and water. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse.

Eye contact

Any material that contacts the eye should be washed out immediately with water. If easy to do, remove contact lenses.

Ingestion

Treat symptomatically.

Immediate Medical Attention

If skin irritation or rash occurs: Get medical attention. Get medical attention if symptoms occur. Get medical attention.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

CO2, Dry chemical or Foam. Water can be used to cool and protect exposed material.

Unsuitable media

Do not use water jet as an extinguisher, as this will spread the fire.

Specific hazards

Material creates a special hazard because it floats on water.

Instructions

No data available.

Firefighter Protection

Wear full protective firegear including self-containing breathing apparatus operated in the positive pressure mode with full facepiece, coat, pants, gloves and boots.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Do not touch damaged containers or spilled material unless wearing appropriate protective clothing. Keep unauthorized personnel away.

Large spill

Dike far ahead of larger spill for later recovery and disposal.

Environmental

Avoid release to the environment. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

Cleanup methods

Pick up free liquid for recycle and/or disposal. Residual liquid can be absorbed on inert material.

Materials: inert material

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapors/spray. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Observe good industrial hygiene practices. Provide adequate ventilation. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse. Avoid environmental contamination. Avoid inhalation of vapors upon opening container. Keep container closed when not in use and use with adequate ventilation.

Storage

Store away from incompatible materials. See section 10 for incompatible materials. Odorous and toxic fumes may form from the decomposition of this product. Do not store product at temperature in excess of 45°C (113°F) for extended periods of time, 1 week or more; or, using a heat source, such as steam, at a temperature in excess of 100°C (212°F).

Hygiene

Observe good industrial hygiene practices. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse.

Fire prevention

Material can accumulate static charges which may cause an electrical spark (ignition source). Use proper bonding and/or grounding procedures.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Material should be handled in enclosed vessels and equipment, in which case general (mechanical) room ventilation should be sufficient. Local exhaust ventilation should be used at points where dust, mist, vapors or gases can escape into the room air.

Hands

Use nitrile or neoprene gloves. Gloves should always be inspected before each use and discarded if they show tears, pinholes, or signs of wear. For typical use and handling of chemical substances, gloves should meet the standards set out in EN 374. For continuous contact, we suggest gloves with a minimum breakthrough time of 240 minutes, or > 480 minutes if suitable gloves can be obtained. For general applications, we recommend gloves with a thickness typically greater than 0.35 mm.

Eyes

If contact is likely, safety glasses with side shields are recommended. Eye protection should meet the standards set out in EN 166.

Respiratory

Use respirator with an organic vapor cartridge if exposure limit is exceeded. Use disposable dust/mist mask if the recommended exposure limit is exceeded. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. A respiratory protection program compliant with all applicable regulations must be followed whenever workplace conditions require the use of a respirator.

Skin/Body

Gloves, coveralls, apron, boots as necessary to minimize contact. Do not wear rings, watches or similar apparel that could entrap the material. Chemical resistant boots.

Environmental

No data available. See section 6 for details.

12.6 Endocrine disrupting properties:

Product: This substance/mixture contains components considered to have endocrine disrupting properties for environment, according to REACH Article 57(f), Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/605 or Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/2100. Phenol, dodecyl-, branched The substance is considered to have endocrine disrupting properties according to REACH Article 57(f) for the environment.

The substance/mixture contains components (Phenol, dodecyl-, branched) considered to have endocrine disrupting properties for the environment according to REACH Article 57(f).

12.7 Other adverse effects

This material contains one or more components that have an impurity (alkylated phenol) that is highly toxic to aquatic organisms (Aquatic Acute 1 and Aquatic Chronic 1). The component containing the impurity (calcium phenate) was tested in fish, invertebrates and algae and the results showed that it may cause long lasting harmful effects to aquatic life (Aquatic Chronic 4). Therefore the classification shown in Section 3 for the alkylphenol impurity should not be used to classify the product for aquatic toxicity. Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects.

The material contains an impurity (alkylated phenol) that is highly toxic to aquatic organisms, but the component containing it (calcium phenate) is classified as Aquatic Chronic 4. The product is classified as toxic/harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
