Skin contact

Wash immediately with lots of water. Soap may be used. Take victim to a doctor if irritation persists.

Symptoms: Caustic burns/corrosion of the skin.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water. Take victim to an ophthalmologist if irritation persists.

Symptoms: Corrosion of the eye tissue.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth with water. Call Poison Information Centre (www.who.int/ipcs/poisons/centre/directory/en). Consult a doctor/medical service if you feel unwell.

Symptoms: Burns to the gastric/intestinal mucosa. Possible esophageal perforation. Blood in vomit. Diarrhoea. Shock. Low arterial pressure. Enlargement/affection of the liver. Decreased renal function.

Specific hazards

DIRECT FIRE HAZARD: Combustible. INDIRECT FIRE HAZARD: Heating increases the fire hazard. Temperature above flashpoint: higher fire/explosion hazard. No direct explosion hazard.

Instructions

Cool tanks/drums with water spray/remove them into safety. Do not move the load if exposed to heat.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Mark the danger area. Exposure to heat: have neighbourhood close doors and windows. Exposure to fire/heat: consider evacuation. Wash contaminated clothes. Keep upwind. Seal off low-lying areas. Close doors and windows of adjacent premises. Stop engines and no smoking. No naked flames or sparks. Spark- and explosionproof appliances and lighting equipment. Keep containers closed.

Environmental

Prevent soil and water pollution.

Cleanup methods

Clean contaminated surfaces with an excess of water and soap solution. Take up liquid spill into inert absorbent material, e.g.: dry sand/earth/vermiculite or powdered limestone.

Materials: dry sand/earth/vermiculite or powdered limestone, water and soap solution
