04

First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Inhalation at ambient temperature is unlikely because of the low vapour pressure of the substance. Move to well-ventilated area. Check vital signs regularly and act accordingly.

Symptoms: May cause: nasal irritation, respiratory tract irritation.

Skin contact

Remove contaminated, saturated clothing immediately. Wash area with soap and water for 10 to 15 minutes or rinse the skin with 10% dioctyl sulfosuccinate (DS) if available.

Symptoms: Causes mild skin irritation.

Eye contact

Remove contact lenses. Irrigate exposed eyes with 0.9% normal saline if available or water for at least 15 minutes. Irrigate before and after removing the lenses to prevent a carry-over of the substances to the shielded area of the lens.

Symptoms: Mild eye irritation.

Ingestion

IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTRE or doctor/ physician. Do NOT induce vomiting. If vomiting does occur, have victim lean forward to reduce risk of aspiration.

Symptoms: Incidental oral exposure; aspiration hazard; may be fatal if it enters the airways after swallowing.

Immediate Medical Attention

IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTRE or doctor/ physician.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Foam (Specifically trained personnel only)- Water fog (Specifically trained personnel only)- Dry chemical powder- Carbon dioxide- Other inert gases (subject to regulations)- Sand or earth.

Unsuitable media

Do not use direct water jets on the burning product; they could cause splattering and spread the fire. Simultaneous use of foam and water on the same surface is to be avoided as water destroys the foam.

Firefighter Protection

In case of a large fire or in confined or poorly ventilated spaces wear full fire resistant protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with a full face-piece operated in positive pressure mode.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Stop or contain leak at the source if safe to do so. Avoid direct contact with released material. Stay upwind. In case of large spillages, alert occupants in downwind areas. Keep non-involved personnel away from the area of spillage. Alert emergency personnel. Eliminate all ignition sources if safe to do so (e.g. electricity, sparks, fires, flares).

Small spill

in case of small spillages in closed waters (i.e. ports), contain product with floating barriers or other equipment. Collect spilled product by absorbing with specific floating absorbents.

Large spill

Large spillages may be cautiously covered with foam, if available, to limit vapour cloud formation. Do not use direct jets. Large spillages in open waters should be contained with floating barriers or other mechanical means and recovered, only if this is strictly necessary and if fire/explosion risks can be adequately prevented.

Environmental

prevent product from entering sewers, rivers, waterways or other bodies of water.

Cleanup methods

Absorb spilled product with suitable non-combustible materials. Collect free product with suitable means. Transfer collected product and other contaminated materials to suitable containers for recovery or safe disposal.

Materials: suitable non-combustible materials

Avoid breathing fume/mist. (If R65 / H304 is applicable): Do not ingest. Prevent the risk of slipping. Use personal protective equipment as required.

Storage

Use and store only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.

Hygiene

Ensure that proper housekeeping measures are in place. Contaminated materials should not be allowed to accumulate in the workplaces and should never be kept inside the pockets. Keep away from food and beverages. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product. Wash the hands thoroughly after handling. Change contaminated clothes at the end of working shift.

Fire prevention

Keep away from sparks/open flames/hot surfaces. – No smoking. Take precautionary measures against static electricity.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

12.3. Bioaccumulative potential

Distillates (petroleum), hydrotreated heavy paraffinic IP 346 < 3%, > 20.5 cSt @ 40 °C (64742-54-7) BCF - Fish [1] Calculated BCF for constituents of this substance range between 0.4 – 6280 L/kg. Partition coefficient n-octanol/water (Log Pow) 1,99 – 18,02 It should be borne in mind that this is the full range of predicted values, and that this may be misleading or unrepresentative of the properties of the UVCB substance as a whole. Bioaccumulative potential Substance is a hydrocarbon UVCB. Standard tests for this endpoint are intended for single substances and are not appropriate for this complex substance. However, this endpoint has been calculated for representative hydrocarbon structures using the BCFWIN v2.16 model within EPISuite 3.12 as input to the hydrocarbon block method incorporated into the PETRORISK model. The predicted BCFs for hydrocarbons are generally overly conservative since biotransformation is not quantitatively taken into account. Therefore, indirect exposure and resulting risk estimates predicted by PETRORISK are likely to be overestimated.

Mobility in soil

The substance is a hydrocarbon UVCB. Standard tests for this endpoint are intended for single substances and are not appropriate for this complex substance.

The substance is a hydrocarbon UVCB; standard mobility tests are not appropriate for this complex substance.
