Ademhalingsbescherming is niet noodzakelijk tijdens normale werkwijze in een werkomgeving waar technische controle middelen zoals adequate ventilatie e.d. voldoende zijn. Wanneer de technische controle middelen en veiligheidsmaatregelen onvoldoende zijn, zou goedgekeurde, goed passende ademhalingbescherming uitgerust met een organische dampfilter en een stoffilter moeten worden gebruikt, indien: a) in het geval dat de technische controle middelen en veiligheidsprocedures gemplementeerd worden; of b)tijdens kortdurende onderhoudswerkzaamheden wanneer de technische controle middelen niet optimaal of onvoldoende functioneren; of c) als de dampconcentratie in de lucht op de werkplek verhoogd is door verhitting; of d) tijdens calamiteiten; of e) alstechnische controle middelen en werkvoorschriften niet voldoende zijn om de concentratie van de stof in de lucht onder de vastgestelde MAC-waarde te brengen.
