Hazard Statements

Emergency Overview: May cause irritation of eyes, skin and respiratory system due to sensory irritation. May cause drowsiness, headache and nausea if sufficient amounts inhaled. May be absorbed through the skin. Repeated exposure may result in skin sensitization.
Eye - May cause irritation unless rinsed immediately and thoroughly with water.
Skin - Prolonged exposure may cause appreciable irritation. Some perfume compounds may be absorbed through the skin. Repeated exposure may result in skin sensitization.
Inhalation - Prolonged high level exposures may cause slight drowsiness, headache and/or irritation of respiratory passages and/or an olfactory response causing temporary irritation of the mucous membranes.
Ingestion - Amounts that may be swallowed as a result of industrial handling are not likely to cause injury. Ingestion of larger amounts may cause injury.

04

First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove to fresh air and encourage deep breathing. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.

Skin contact

Rinse thoroughly with water. If irritation occurs and persists, report to the Medical Dept.

Eye contact

Flush with water for 15 minutes and report to the Medical Department.

Ingestion

Drink large quantities of water and call a physician.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Use dry chemical, CO₂ or alcohol foam extinguishing media.

Specific hazards

Combustible liquid. Vapors form explosive mixtures in air at elevated temperatures.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

SAFETY SHOWERS/EYEWASH FOUNTAINS: Must be easily accessible within 30-50 feet in all areas where this material is handled.

Environmental

Contain all spills. Prevent from entering waterways.

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Store all raw materials in properly labeled, tightly closed containers.

Storage

Store in cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Isolate from all ignition sources. Storage amounts may be limited. See PSP #360-Process Safety Manual.

Fire prevention

Isolate from all ignition sources.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Good general ventilation and/or local exhaust ventilation should be provided in areas where there is handling of perfumes in open systems (e.g., dispensing from drums). This applies to perfume compounding areas as well. Provide fire extinguishers, fire hoses and natural or forced air ventilation (at least 2 air changes per hour). Walls, floors, ceilings must have 2 hour fire rating. Outside walls must be noncombustible. See PSP #360, Process Safety Manual for fire protection requirements.

Hands

Use natural rubber gloves for direct contact.

Eyes

If splash potential exists, use chemical goggles.

Respiratory

Prolonged exposures to high vapor concentrations may require respiratory protection approved by NIOSH/MSHA for organic vapors. Individuals involved with odor evaluation tasks should breathe shallow/genfly in accordance with good odor evaluation techniques.

Skin/Body

Avoid unnecessary skin contact. Contaminated clothing and footwear should be removed and thoroughly cleaned before reuse. Use natural rubber aprons for direct contact. Other items will be dictated by circumstances.
