Stability and Reactivity

Chemical stability, hazardous reactions, and incompatible materials

Stability

Stable product. Becomes rancid when exposed to air, light and elevated temperature.

Hazardous reactions

Formation of Acrolein with thermal decomposition (from 350 ° c).

Avoid

Contact between vegetable oil which is heated and water.

Incompatible

No specific chemical reactions known.

Decomposition

Thermal decomposition of the vegetable oil leads to formation of Acrolein. At high temperatures the vegetable oil gets more rancid so the self-ignition temperature drops.
