First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove casualty from exposure ensuring one's own safety whilst doing so. Seek medical attention if you feel unwell.

Symptoms: Exposure may cause coughing or wheezing.

Skin contact

Remove all contaminated clothes and footwear immediately unless stuck to skin. Wash immediately with plenty of soap and water. Obtain medical attention if soreness or redness persists.

Symptoms: There may be irritation and redness at the site of contact.

Eye contact

Bathe the eye with running water for 15 minutes. Transfer to hospital for specialist examination.

Symptoms: There may be irritation and redness. The eyes may water profusely.

Ingestion

Do not induce vomiting. Wash out mouth with water. If conscious, give half a litre of water to drink immediately. Consult a doctor.

Symptoms: There may be soreness and redness of the mouth and throat.

Immediate Medical Attention

Obtain medical attention if soreness or redness persists (skin contact). Transfer to hospital for specialist examination (eye contact). Consult a doctor (ingestion). Seek medical attention if you feel unwell (inhalation).
