First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Skin contact

Wash skin with plenty of water. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately and thoroughly, pulling the eyelids well away from the eye (15 minutes minimum). Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists.

Ingestion

Do NOT induce vomiting. Call a poison center or a doctor if you feel unwell.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Dry powder. Foam. Carbon dioxide. Alcohol resistant foam.

Unsuitable media

Do not use water jet as an extinguisher, as this will spread the fire.

Specific hazards

During fire, gases hazardous to health may be formed.

Instructions

Use standard firefighting procedures and consider the hazards of other involved materials.

Firefighter Protection

Self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in case of fire.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Keep unnecessary personnel away. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. Ensure adequate ventilation. Stop leak without risks if possible. Move containers from fire area if it can be done without personal risk.

Small spill

Wipe up with absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece). Clean surface thoroughly to remove residual contamination.

Large spill

Stop the flow of material, if this is without risk. Dike the spilled material, where this is possible. Cover with plastic sheet to prevent spreading. Absorb in vermiculite, dry sand or earth and place into containers. Following product recovery, flush area with water.

Environmental

Avoid release to the environment. Avoid discharge into drains, water courses or onto the ground. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Inform appropriate managerial or supervisory personnel of all environmental releases.

Cleanup methods

Absorb in vermiculite, dry sand or earth and place into containers. Following product recovery, flush area with water. Wipe up with absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece). Clean surface thoroughly to remove residual contamination.

Materials: vermiculite, dry sand or earth, absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece)

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Wear personal protective equipment. Ensure good ventilation of the work station.

Storage

Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep cool.

Hygiene

Always observe good personal hygiene measures, such as washing after handling the material and before eating, drinking, and/or smoking. Routinely wash work clothing and protective equipment to remove contaminants. Observe good industrial hygiene practices.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Good general ventilation (typically 10 air changes per hour) should be used. Ventilation rates should be matched to conditions. If applicable, use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to maintain airborne levels below recommended exposure limits. If exposure limits have not been established, maintain airborne levels to an acceptable level

Hands

Protective gloves. Material: Nitrile rubber (NBR), Permeation: 2 (> 30 minutes), Thickness: > 0.3 mm, Standard: EN ISO 374. The recommendation is only valid for the supplied product and the stated application. Special working conditions, like heat or mechanical strain, which deviate from the test conditions, can reduce the protective effect provided by the recommended glove

Eyes

Safety glasses with side shields. EN 166.

Respiratory

In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Filter type: A-P2

Skin/Body

Wear suitable protective clothing

Environmental

Avoid release to the environment. Inform appropriate managerial or supervisory personnel of all environmental releases.
