First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention. Immediately administer a corticosteroid from a controlled/metered dose inhaler.

Skin contact

Immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings, consult a skin specialist.

Eye contact

Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.

Ingestion

Immediately rinse mouth and then drink 200 - 300 ml water, do not induce vomiting, seek medical attention.

Medical Treatment

Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific antidote.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

water spray, dry powder, foam

Specific hazards

harmful vapours, chlorine compounds Evolution of fumes/fog. The substances/groups of substances mentioned can be released in case of fire.

Instructions

If without risk, remove intact containers from exposure to fire, or spray unopened containers with water mist to keep cool.

Firefighter Protection

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.

06

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Avoid contact with eyes. Use suitable eye protection. Wash hands before breaks and at end of work. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Storage

Keep container tightly closed and in a cool place. Stir before use.

Hygiene

Wash hands before breaks and at end of work. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Fire prevention

No special precautions necessary.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Hands

Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN ISO 374-1) Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (Recommended: Protective index 6, corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN ISO 374-1): e.g. nitrile rubber (0.4 mm), chloroprene rubber (0.5 mm), polyvinylchloride (0.7 mm) and other Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing. Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.

Eyes

Tightly fitting safety goggles (splash goggles) (e.g. EN 166)

Respiratory

Suitable respiratory protection for higher concentrations or long-term effect: Gas filter for gases/vapours of organic compounds (boiling point >65 °C, e. g. EN 14387 Type A)

Skin/Body

chemical-protection suit (f.e. according to EN 14605)
