First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention. Immediately administer a corticosteroid from a controlled/metered dose inhaler.

Skin contact

Immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings, consult a skin specialist.

Eye contact

Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.

Ingestion

Do not induce vomiting. Immediately rinse mouth and then drink 200-300 ml of water, seek medical attention.

Immediate Medical Attention

If the patient is likely to become unconscious, place and transport in stable sideways position (recovery position). If not breathing, give artificial respiration. Seek medical attention for inhalation and ingestion. Consult a skin specialist for skin contact and an eye specialist for eye contact.

Medical Treatment

Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions).

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

carbon monoxide, Carbon dioxide, nitrous gases

Firefighter Protection

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Small spill

Allow to solidify and sweep/shovel up.

Large spill

Allow to solidify and sweep/shovel up.

Environmental

Do not discharge into drains/surface waters/groundwater.

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Product solidified and/or tending to sedimentation in barrels can be liquified or homogenized by careful application of indirect heat (no naked flames or direct contact with a heat source). Avoid/prevent any exposure and emissions. Avoid frequent and direct contact with substance. Ensure minimization of manual phases. Ensure material transfers are under containment or extract ventilation. Ensure that task is semi-automated or automated. Regular cleaning of equipment and work area. Regular inspection and maintenance of equipment and machines. In case of potential exposure: Wear suitable respiratory protection. Wear chemically resistant gloves in combination with intensive management supervision control. Use suitable eye protection. Wear suitable working clothes. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas. Hands and/or face should be washed before breaks and at the end of the shift. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Storage

Keep container tightly closed and dry; store in a cool place. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.

Hygiene

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas. Hands and/or face should be washed before breaks and at the end of the shift. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Fire prevention

The product is combustible. Prevent electrostatic charge - sources of ignition should be kept well clear - fire extinguishers should be kept handy.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Hands

Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN ISO 374-1) Performance level 6, corresponding to a breakthrough time of >480 min according to EN ISO 374-1 fluoroelastomer (FKM) - 0.7 mm coating thickness butyl rubber (butyl) - 0.7 mm coating thickness polyvinylchloride (PVC) - 0.7 mm coating thickness nitrile rubber (NBR) - 0.4 mm coating thickness chloroprene rubber (CR) - 0.5 mm coating thickness Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing. Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.

Eyes

Tightly fitting safety goggles (cage goggles) (e.g. EN 166) and face shield.

Respiratory

Breathing protection if breathable aerosols/dust are formed. Combination filter for gases/vapours of organic compounds and solid and liquid particles (f.e. EN 14387 Type A-P2)

Skin/Body

chemical protection overall (f.e. according to EN 13982) if dust is formed.
