First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

When symptoms occur: go into open air and ventilate suspected area. Obtain medical attention if breathing difficulty persists.

Symptoms: Dust from this product may cause irritation to the respiratory tract.

Skin contact

Wash with plenty of soap and water. Obtain medical attention if irritation develops or persists.

Symptoms: Dust may cause irritation in skin folds or by contact in combination with tight clothing. Skin exposure can cause an allergic red rash (cobalt itch).

Eye contact

Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.

Symptoms: Eye contact with dust may cause mechanical irritation.

Ingestion

If substantial quantities are swallowed, dilute with large amount of water. Induce vomiting and seek medical attention.

Symptoms: Ingestion is likely to be harmful or have adverse effects.

Immediate Medical Attention

If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Dry chemical powder, alcohol-resistant foam, carbon dioxide (CO₂).

Unsuitable media

Do not use a heavy water stream. Use of heavy stream of water may spread fire.

Specific hazards

Fire Hazard: Not considered flammable but may burn at high temperatures. Explosion Hazard: Dusts may present a fire or explosion hazard under rare favoring conditions of particle size, dispersion, concentration, and strong ignition source. However, this is not expected to be a problem under normal handling conditions.

Instructions

Do not breathe fumes or vapors from fire.

Firefighter Protection

For a dust fire confined to a small area, use a respirator approved for toxic dusts and fumes. For a large fire involving this material, fire fighters should use a self-contained breathing apparatus.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Evacuate unnecessary personnel. Eliminate ignition sources. Ventilate area.

Environmental

Prevent entry to sewers and public waters.

Cleanup methods

Clean up spills immediately and dispose of waste safely. Use HEPA vacuum or thoroughly wet with water to clean-up dust. Transfer spilled material to a suitable container for disposal.

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Use care during processing to minimize generation of dust. Avoid dust production that exceeds permissible exposure limits.

Storage

Store in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.

Hygiene

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety procedures. Wash hands and other exposed areas with mild soap and water before eating, drinking, or smoking and again when leaving work.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Use local exhaust or general dilution ventilation or other suppression methods to maintain dust levels below exposure limits. Power equipment should be equipped with proper dust collection devices. Ensure all national/local regulations are observed.

Hands

Chemically resistant gloves are recommended, but not required.

Eyes

Chemical safety goggles.

Respiratory

If exposure limits are exceeded or irritation is experienced, approved respiratory protection should be worn.

Skin/Body

Wear suitable protective clothing. Chemically resistant materials and fabrics.
