First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing. Remove the victim into fresh air. Respiratory problems: consult a doctor/medical service. Call a poison center or a doctor if you feel unwell.

Symptoms: Corrosion of the upper respiratory tract. Risk of lung oedema.

Skin contact

Wash immediately with PE-glycol 400. Wash immediately with lots of water (15 minutes)/shower. Remove clothing before washing. Take victim to a doctor if irritation persists. Rinse skin with water/shower. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Call a physician immediately.

Symptoms: Caustic burns/corrosion of the skin. Burns. May cause an allergic skin reaction.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water for 15 minutes. Do not apply neutralizing agents. Take victim to an ophthalmologist if irritation persists. Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Call a physician immediately.

Symptoms: Serious damage to eyes.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth with water. Drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting. Immediately consult a doctor/medical service. Rinse mouth. Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately.

Symptoms: Systemic damage to kidneys, liver and heart as well as neuropsychiatric disturbances are produced. Burns.

Immediate Medical Attention

Call a physician immediately. Immediately consult a doctor/medical service. Take victim to a doctor if irritation persists. Take victim to an ophthalmologist if irritation persists.

DIRECT EXPLOSION HAZARD: Gas/vapour explosive with air within explosion limits. INDIRECT EXPLOSION HAZARD: May be ignited by sparks. Reactions with explosion hazards: see "Reactivity Hazard". Reacts violently with (strong) oxidizers. Violent exothermic reaction with (some) acids. Violent to explosive reaction with (some) halogens.

Instructions

Take account of environmentally hazardous firefighting water. Cool tanks/drums with water spray/remove them into safety.

Firefighter Protection

Heat/fire exposure: compressed air/oxygen apparatus. Do not attempt to take action without suitable protective equipment. Self-contained breathing apparatus. Complete protective clothing.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Local exhaust ventilation should be provided. Stop engines and no smoking. No naked flames or sparks. Spark- and explosionproof appliances and lighting equipment. Only qualified personnel equipped with suitable protective equipment may intervene. Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.

Large spill

Large spills/in enclosed spaces: compressed air apparatus.

Environmental

Substance must not be discharged into the sewer. Prevent soil and water pollution. Mark the danger area.

Cleanup methods

Take up liquid spill into absorbent material. Take up liquid spill into a non combustible material e.g.: sand, earth, vermiculite, kieselguhr, powdered limestone. Scoop absorbed substance into closing containers. Clean contaminated surfaces with an excess of water.

Materials: absorbent material, sand, earth, vermiculite, kieselguhr, powdered limestone
