First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Move the exposed person to fresh air at once. Rinse nose and mouth with water. When breathing is difficult, properly trained personnel may assist affected person by administering oxygen. If breathing stops, DO NOT USE MOUTH TO MOUTH RESCUSITATION !!! - appropriate mechanical means must be used. Keep the affected person warm and a treat.

Symptoms: No adverse effects are anticipated from inhalation.

Skin contact

Wash with water and soap and rinse thoroughly. Remove affected person from source of contamination. Remove contaminated clothing immediately and wash skin with soap and water.

Symptoms: Skin irritation. Prolonged contact may cause redness, irritation and dry skin.

Eye contact

Rinse opened eye for several minutes under running water. Immediately flush with plenty of water for up to 15 minutes. Remove any contact lenses and open eyes wide apart.

Symptoms: Irritation, burning, lachrymation, blurred vision after liquid splash. May cause blurred vision and serious eye damage.

Ingestion

Promptly get affected person to drink large volumes of water to dilute the swallowed chemical. Rinse nose, mouth and throat with water. DO NOT induce vomiting if swallowed chemical is dissolved in petroleum-based material. If vomiting occurs, keep head low so that stomach content doesn't get into the lungs. NEVER MAKE AN UNCONSCIOUS PERSON VOMIT OR DRINK FLUIDS!

Symptoms: May cause discomfort if swallowed. May cause stomach pain or vomiting.

Get prompt medical attention. Get medical attention promptly if symptoms occur after washing. To hospital or eyespecialist. Get medical attention immediately!

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Extinguish with alcohol-resistant foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder or water fog. Use fire-extinguishing media appropriate for surrounding materials.

Water with full jet. Do not use water jet as an extinguisher, as this will spread the fire.

Avoid breathing fire vapours. Keep up-wind to avoid fumes. Use water to keep fire exposed containers cool and disperse vapours. Cool containers exposed to flames with water until well after the fire is out. Ventilate closed spaces before entering them.

Self contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in case of fire.

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Use engineering controls to reduce air contamination to permissible exposure level. Provide adequate ventilation, including appropriate local extraction to ensure that the defined occupational exposure limit is not exceeded. Observe Workplace Exposure Limits and minimise the risk of inhalation of vapours. Explosion-proof general and local exhaust ventilation.

Hands

Protective gloves. The glove material has to be impermeable and resistant to the product/ the substance/ the preparation. Due to missing tests no recommendation to the glove material can be given for the product/ the preparation/ the chemical mixture. Selection of the glove material on consideration of the penetration times, rates of diffusion and the degradation. Protective gloves must be used if there is a risk of direct contact or splash. Use protective gloves made of: Nitrile. or Viton rubber (fluor rubber). The selection of the suitable gloves does not only depend on the material, but also on further marks of quality and varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. As the product is a preparation of several substances, the resistance of the glove material can not be calculated in advance and has therefore to be checked prior to the application. The exact break through time has to be found out by the manufacturer of the protective gloves and has to be observed.

Eyes

Tightly sealed goggles. Wear splash-proof eye goggles to prevent any possibility of eye contact. Contact lenses should not be worn when working with this chemical!

Respiratory

If ventilation is insufficient, suitable respiratory protection must be provided. At work in confined or poorly ventilated spaces, respiratory protection with air supply must be used. Seek advice from supervisor on the companies' respiratory protection standards.

Skin/Body

Provide eyewash station and safety shower. Wear suitable protective clothing as protection against splashing or contamination.

Environmental

Keep container tightly sealed when not in use. Residues and empty containers should be taken care of as hazardous waste according to local and national provisions. Emissions from ventilation or work process equipment should be checked to ensure they comply with the requirements of environmental protection legislation. In some cases fume scrubbers, filters or engineering modifications to the process equipment will be necessary to reduce emissions to acceptable levels.
