Composition / Information on Ingredients

Chemical components, concentration ranges, and hazardous substance identification

Type mixture

The product is a mixture which contains 72 to 84 % wt. of glass fibers (continuous filament CAS № 65997-17-3) and 16 to 28 % wt. of a binder comprising urea-formaldehyde polymer (CAS № 9011-05-6) and some other additives destined to upgrade an additive.

Chemical Name CAS Number Concentration Hazardous
glass fibers (continuous filament) 65997-17-3 72 - 84% No
binder comprising urea-formaldehyde polymer 9011-05-6 16 - 28% No
free formaldehyde 50-00-0 0.1% No

Fiber Glass Nonwoven Tissue contains no more than 0.1 % of free formaldehyde (CAS № 50-00-0). The product does not contain PBT and vPvB substances according to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XIII. 3.3. Additional information: None.

Notes

The continuous filaments are not respirable (do not penetrate into lower lobes of the lung), since the nominal diameter of the glass fibers is more than 12 μm. According to WHO the respirable glass fibers have diameter no more than 3 μm.

First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Provide the clean air availability, free breathing conditions for an injured person, when breathing in the product dust, glass fibers or products of the binder thermal decomposition. Blow nose to expel the dust and fibers. Rinse Wash mouth cavity with water. If irritation persists, seek medical advice.

Symptoms: Breathing excessive dust and glass fibers causes short term irritation of upper airways (tickle, cough, and hyperemia).

Skin contact

Lay off the clothes contaminated by the product dust and glass fibers. Wash the contaminated skin with mild soap and running water. Do not use hot water since it contributes to dilatation of pores and, consequently, to deeper penetration of the glass fibers into skin. Do not rub or scratch the affected skin areas. Use an adhesive tape to remove the glass fibers from skin. If irritation persists, seek medical advice.

Symptoms: Product dust and glass fibers may cause short term irritation (itching, red spots on skin).

Eye contact

Wash eyes with running water for at least 15 minutes. Do not rub eyes. If irritation persists, seek medical advice.

Symptoms: Product dust and glass fibers may cause short term mycosis of mucous membranes, mechanical irritation (itching) and discomfort.

Ingestion

First aid measures depend on symptoms. Give some water to drink. If abdominal discomfort persists, seek medical advice.

Symptoms: Ingestion of this material is unlikely. When contingency ingestion, discomfort sense in gastrointestinal tract.

Medical Treatment

A treatment has to be directed to removal of mechanical stimulus. Symptomatic therapy.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Water fog, dry chemical powder, fire extinguishers, sand, and soul.

Unsuitable media

None.

Specific hazards

When combustion or smoldering the product, there is emitted a gas mixture comprising carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides.

Instructions

In any sustained fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective fire suit.

Firefighter Protection

In any sustained fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective fire suit.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Efficient operation of a combined extract and input ventilation system. Avoid emission and breathing the dust of product and glass fibers.

Environmental

Avoid emission of the product into water bodies, sewage water, and drainage systems.

Cleanup methods

Collect the product spilled into a container for utilization. Do wet or vacuum cleaning in working areas.

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Avoid breathing the dust of product and glass fibers, and formaldehyde. When the combined extract and input ventilation system operates insufficiently well, wear the personal protective equipment for breathing organs (see Section 8).

Storage

Keep the packed product in a closed well ventilated dry storage room far away from ignition sources. Avoid ingress of moisture. Keep product in its packaging upright. It is allowed to keep the product at pallets by four layers upwards.

Hygiene

Do not eat, drink, and smoke at a workplace. Wash hands and take a shower after completing a working shift. Clean the contaminated cloths.

Fire prevention

Keep away from open flame and sources of ignition.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Every work should be performed under conditions sufficient to minimize the generation of product dust and glass fibers. The working areas should be ventilated well. It is necessary to tidy up a room and to clean the equipment from product dust and glass fibers by wet or vacuum method.

Hands

protective gloves. Selection of protective gloves depends on conditions in working areas. If wear scars (puncture holes or contaminations) are observed, substitute the gloves. Protective gloves should meet European standard for gloves EN 420.

Eyes

It is recommended to wear non-breakable eyeglasses with side shields as a minimal protection. Eyes protection should meet European standard for eye protection EN 166.

Respiratory

If dust is generated and ventilation is inadequate, use respiratory protection equipment. Respiratory protection equipment should meet European respiratory protection standard EN 149.

Skin/Body

head-dress, yawned protective clothing with long sleeves and trousers. It is recommended to cover the open skin with a protective cream or ointment as a preventive measure. It is recommended to wear a long sleeved shirts and trousers. Use elastic wrists and leg cuffs to prevent a penetration of glass fibers into shoes, as well gloves.

Environmental

No special control is required. Avoid emission of the product into water bodies, sewage water, and drainage systems.
