First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Unlikely to be hazardous by inhalation due to the product's low vapor pressure at ambient temperature. Remove to fresh air. Get medical attention if symptoms are severe or persist.

Symptoms: Vapours may irritate throat and respiratory system.

Skin contact

Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water while removing all contaminated clothes and shoes. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists.

Symptoms: Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking.

Eye contact

Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Keep eye wide open while rinsing. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists.

Ingestion

Do NOT induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs spontaneously, keep head below hips to prevent aspiration. Rinse mouth. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get immediate medical attention.

Symptoms: ASPIRATION HAZARD IF SWALLOWED - CAN ENTER LUNGS AND CAUSE DAMAGE. Entry into the lungs following ingestion or vomiting may cause chemical pneumonitis.

Immediate Medical Attention

Get immediate medical attention.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Dry chemical. Carbon dioxide (CO2). Water spray. Alcohol resistant foam.

Unsuitable media

Do not scatter spilled material with high pressure water streams.

Specific hazards

Flammable liquid and vapour. Risk of ignition. Keep product and empty container away from heat and sources of ignition. Containers may explode when heated. In the event of fire, cool tanks with water spray. Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Instructions

Cool containers exposed to heat with water spray and remove them from the fire area if it can be done without risk.

Firefighter Protection

Wear positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Use personal protective equipment as required. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Avoid breathing vapours or mists. Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. ELIMINATE all ignition sources (no smoking, flares, sparks or flames in immediate area). Pay attention to flashback. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. All equipment used when handling the product must be grounded. Do not touch or walk through spilled material.

Environmental

Avoid release to the environment. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Keep out of drains, sewers, ditches and waterways.

Cleanup methods

Immediately start clean-up of the liquid and contaminated soil. Dam up. Soak up with inert absorbent material. Pick up and transfer to properly labelled containers.

Materials: inert absorbent material

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Use personal protection equipment. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid breathing vapours or mists. Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Use with local exhaust ventilation. Try to avoid product volatilization during handling and transferring. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Use grounding and bonding connection when transferring this material to prevent static discharge, fire or explosion. Use spark-proof tools and explosion-proof equipment. During tank operations follow special instructions (risk of oxygen displacement and hydrocarbons).

Storage

Flammable liquid storage. Store away from other materials. Store in a demarcated bunded area to prevent release to drains and/or watercourses. Keep away from heat, sparks, flame and other sources of ignition (i.e., pilot lights, electric motors and static electricity). Take action to prevent static discharges. Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep in properly labelled containers. Do not store near combustible materials. Store in accordance with the particular national regulations. Store in accordance with local regulations.

Hygiene

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product. Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace. Regular cleaning of equipment, work area and clothing is recommended. Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the product.

Fire prevention

Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Use grounding and bonding connection. Use spark-proof tools and explosion-proof equipment.
