First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove casualty to fresh air and keep warm and at rest. If breathing is difficult, remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. If unconscious but breathing normally, place in recovery position and seek medical advice. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration. Seek medical advice immediately.

Symptoms: Cough. Lung irritation Irritation to respiratory tract Nausea.

Skin contact

Remove contaminated, saturated clothing immediately. Wash with plenty of soap and water. In case of skin irritation, consult a physician. If extensive skin contact: get medical help immediately and kept under medical surveillance (hospitalization).

Symptoms: Minor irritation. Erythema (Redness).

Eye contact

Rinse immediately carefully and thoroughly with eye-bath or water. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Consult an ophthalmologist.

Symptoms: Conjunctival redness.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth thoroughly with water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person or a person with cramps. Do NOT induce vomiting. Immediately call a POISON CENTRE/doctor.

Symptoms: Aspiration hazard. Nausea. Vomiting. Drowsiness.

Immediate Medical Attention

Seek medical advice immediately (inhalation), consult a physician (skin irritation), get medical help immediately (extensive skin contact), consult an ophthalmologist (eye contact), immediately call a POISON CENTRE/doctor (ingestion).

Medical Treatment

Treatment can be analogous to intoxication from alcoholic beverages. After massive inhalation administration of glucocorticoids (inhalative). If necessary, all further measures for pulmonary edema prophylaxis. If necessary, treat skin irritations with a dermatocorticoid foam.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

ABC-powder, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Dry sand, Nitrogen

Unsuitable media

Full water jet

Specific hazards

Flammable liquids. Risk of ignition. Vapour can form explosive mixtures with air. Vapours can travel considerable distances to a source of ignition where they can ignite, flash back, or explode. Closed containers may burst when pressure and temperature rise.

Instructions

Co-ordinate fire-fighting measures to the fire surroundings. Use water spray jet to protect personnel and to cool endangered containers.

Firefighter Protection

Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Remove victim out of the danger area. First Aid, decontamination, treatment of symptoms.

Environmental

Do not allow to enter into surface water or drains. Fire hazard.

Cleanup methods

Absorb with liquid-binding material

Materials: sand, diatomaceous earth, acid- or universal binding agents

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Technical measures and the application of suitable work processes have priority over personal protection equipment. If handled uncovered, arrangements with local exhaust ventilation have to be used.

Hands

When handling with chemical substances, protective gloves must be worn with the CE-label including the four control digits. Recommended glove articles DIN-/EN-Norms EN ISO 374 In the case of wanting to use the gloves again, clean them before taking off and air them well. By short-term hand contact: Suitable material: NBR (Nitrile rubber), Thickness of the glove material: 0,38 mm, Breakthrough time: 240-480 min, Recommended glove articles: VWR 112-3717 / 112-1381. By long-term hand contact: Suitable material: NBR (Nitrile rubber), Thickness of the glove material: 0,425 mm, Breakthrough time: > 480 min, Recommended glove articles: VWR 112-0971

Eyes

Eye glasses with side protection DIN-/EN-Norms EN 166. Recommendation: VWR 111-0432

Respiratory

Respiratory protection necessary at: aerosol or mist formation. Suitable respiratory protection apparatus: Full-/half-/quarter-face masks (EN 136/140). Recommendation: VWR 111-0206. Suitable material: ABEK2P3. Recommendation: VWR 111-0059
