First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove the affected individual into fresh air and keep the person calm. Assist in breathing if necessary.

Skin contact

Wash affected areas thoroughly with soap and water.

Eye contact

In case of contact with the eyes, rinse immediately for at least 15 minutes with plenty of water.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth and then drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting. Never induce vomiting or give anything by mouth if the victim is unconscious or having convulsions.

Immediate Medical Attention

Immediate medical attention required.

Medical Treatment

Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions).

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

water spray, dry powder, foam, carbon dioxide

Unsuitable media

water jet

Specific hazards

Substance/product is dangerous when exposed to heat or flames. If product is heated above decomposition temperature, toxic vapours will be released.

Instructions

Cool endangered containers with water-spray.

Firefighter Protection

Firefighters should be equipped with self-contained breathing apparatus and turn-out gear.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame. Use antistatic tools. Extinguish sources of ignition nearby and downwind.

Environmental

Notify the responsible authorities of reportable releases to the air, into waterways, soil or sewers.

Cleanup methods

Spills should be contained, solidified, and placed in suitable containers for disposal.

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Wear suitable protective clothing and eye/face protection. Handle and open container with care. Prevent contact with air/oxygen (formation of peroxide). Handle under dry inert gas. Use antistatic tools.

Storage

Keep container tightly closed. Keep under inert gas. Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame.

Fire prevention

Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Use antistatic tools. Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Provide local exhaust ventilation to maintain recommended P.E.L.

Hands

Chemical resistant protective gloves, Polyethylene-Laminate (PE laminate) - ca. 0.1 mm coating thickness

Eyes

Tightly fitting safety goggles (chemical goggles). Wear face shield if splashing hazard exists.

Respiratory

Wear a NIOSH-certified (or equivalent) organic vapour/particulate respirator. Do not exceed the maximum use concentration for the respirator facepiece/cartridge combination. For emergency or non-routine, high exposure situations, use a NIOSH-certified full facepiece pressure demand self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or a full facepiece pressure demand supplied-air respirator (SAR) with escape provisions.

Skin/Body

Body protection must be chosen depending on activity and possible exposure, e.g. head protection, apron, protective boots, chemical-protection suit.
