First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

remove the victim to fresh air. Keep warm and calm. Consult a doctor, if disturbing symptoms occur.

Symptoms: high concentration of vapours and mists may lead to irritation of mucous membranes of eyes and respiratory tract, tearing, redness of conjunctiva, cough, burning sensation in throat and nose. May cause drowsiness or dizziness.

Skin contact

take off contaminated clothes. Immediately wash contaminated skin thoroughly with water. If there is no sign of irritation it is recommended to use soap. Consult a doctor if disturbing symptoms occur.

Symptoms: possible redness, dryness, defatting, cracking, irritation.

Eye contact

contact an ophthalmologist if disturbing symptoms occur. Protect non-irritated eye, remove contact lenses. Rinse contaminated eyes with water for at least 10-15 minutes. Avoid strong stream of water – risk of damage of the cornea.

Symptoms: possible tearing, redness, irritation.

Ingestion

do not induce vomiting. Call doctor immediately, show container or label. In case of spontaneous vomiting do not allow vomit to enter airways. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Symptoms: abdominal pains, nausea, vomiting.

Immediate Medical Attention

Call doctor immediately (for ingestion). Consult a doctor if disturbing symptoms occur (for skin, eye, inhalation).

Medical Treatment

Physician makes a decision regarding further medical treatment after thoroughly examination of the injured. Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

extinguishing powder, alcohol resistant extinguishing foam, carbon dioxide, water fog. Adjust extinguishing media to the materials stored in the product vicinity.

Unsuitable media

water jet – risk of propagation of flame.

Specific hazards

During combustion harmful gases consisting of carbon oxides, nitrous oxides, organic vapours etc. may be produced. Pressure inside the container increases when heated or exposed to fire, what may lead to an explosion. Product vapours may create explosive/dangerous mixtures with air.

Instructions

Isolate the exposed area, do not take any actions which may cause risk for life and health. Cool endangered containers with water fog from a safe distance.

Firefighter Protection

Do not stay in the fire zone without self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing resistant to chemicals.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Limit the access for the outsiders into the breakdown area, until the suitable cleaning operations are completed. Ensure that removing the problem and its results is conducted by a trained personnel only. In case of large spills, isolate the exposed area.

Large spill

In case of large spills, isolate the exposed area.

Environmental

Secure sewers, water installations and entrances to basements and other closed areas.

Cleanup methods

Collect leakage using non-flammable liquid binding materials and place it in correctly labelled containers.

Materials: sand, earth, universal binding substances, silica, vermiculite

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Take special care when handling the product. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using the product. Avoid eyes and skin contamination. Wear adequate protective clothing. Do not inhale vapours. Wash hands before breaks and after work. Protect product from moisture and high temperature. Work away from sources of fire. Do not smoke.

Storage

Store only in original, tight containers in a dry, cool and well ventilated place. Keep away from food, foodstuffs, animal feed and drinking water. Opened container should be resealed and stored upright to prevent leaking. Store away from sources of heat and ignition. and direct sunlight.

Hygiene

Do not eat, drink or smoke when using the product. Wash hands before breaks and after work.

Fire prevention

Work away from sources of fire. Do not smoke.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Ensure adequate ventilation.

Hands

Use adequate protective gloves. According to the demand wear gloves resistant to solvents or vinyl gloves. In case of short term contact use protective gloves with effectiveness level 2 or higher (permeation time > 30 minutes). In case of long term contact use protective gloves with effectiveness level 6 (permeation time > 480 minutes). The material that the gloves are made of must be impenetrable and resistant to the product's effects. The selection of material must be performed with consideration of breakthrough time, penetration speed and degradation. Moreover, the selection of proper gloves depends not only on the material, but also on other quality features and changes depending on the manufacturer. The producer should provide detailed information regarding the exact breakthrough time. This information should be followed

Eyes

Use tightly fitting protective glasses if there is a risk of eye contamination.

Respiratory

Respiratory protection is not required when product is used as intended.

Skin/Body

Wear protective clothing.

Environmental

Avoid release to the environment, do not enter the sewage system. Emissions from ventilation or work process equipment should be checked to ensure they comply with the requirements of environmental protection legislation.
