First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Move to fresh air. Call a physician if symptoms develop or persist.

Skin contact

Wash off with soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists.

Eye contact

Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Get medical attention immediately.

Symptoms: Severe eye irritation. Symptoms may include stinging, tearing, redness, swelling, and blurred vision. Permanent eye damage including blindness could result.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth carefully. Get medical attention immediately.

Immediate Medical Attention

Provide general supportive measures and treat symptomatically. Keep victim under observation. Symptoms may be delayed.

Medical Treatment

Provide general supportive measures and treat symptomatically. Keep victim under observation.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Water fog. Dry chemical powder. Carbon dioxide (CO2). Large Fires: Extinguish with water fog.

Unsuitable media

Do not use water jet.

Specific hazards

Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases.

Instructions

Move containers from fire area if you can do so without risk. Use standard firefighting procedures and consider the hazards of other involved materials.

Firefighter Protection

Self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in case of fire.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

For non-emergency personnel: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment. For emergency responders: Keep unnecessary personnel away.

Small spill

Wipe up with absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece). Clean surface thoroughly to remove residual contamination.

Large spill

Stop the flow of material, if this is without risk. Dike the spilled material, where this is possible. Absorb in vermiculite, dry sand or earth and place into containers. Following product recovery, flush area with water.

Environmental

Avoid discharge into drains, water courses or onto the ground.

Cleanup methods

Following product recovery, flush area with water. Wipe up with absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece). Clean surface thoroughly to remove residual contamination.

Materials: vermiculite, dry sand or earth, absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece)

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Do not get this material in contact with eyes. Avoid prolonged exposure. Provide adequate ventilation. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Observe good industrial hygiene practices.

Storage

Store in tightly closed original container in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.

Hygiene

Observe good industrial hygiene practices.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Good general ventilation should be used. Ventilation rates should be matched to conditions. If applicable, use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to maintain airborne levels below recommended exposure limits. If exposure limits have not been established, maintain airborne levels to an acceptable level. Provide eyewash station.

Hands

Wear appropriate chemical resistant gloves. PVC gloves are recommended.

Eyes

Wear safety glasses with side shields (or goggles) and a face shield.

Respiratory

In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.

Skin/Body

Wear suitable protective clothing.

Environmental

Environmental manager must be informed of all major releases.
