Composition / Information on Ingredients
Chemical components, concentration ranges, and hazardous substance identification
Drilling fluid is a highly complex and variable blend of several proprietary products. Each drilling fluid is designed to meet the drilling requirements of a specific well. During the drilling process the composition and physical properties of the drilling fluid are constantly changing; therefore, a complete disclosure of a particular fluid's composition is impractical.

Notes
The viscosity of this product is high enough that it is not an aspiration risk and the H304 phrase does not apply. *Substances which have an EC Number that begins with the number "9" is a Provisional List Number. The list numbers published by ECHA do not have any legal significance. The EC substance definition and related classification & labelling has been developed in the framework of the Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH). For information about the related CAS number see section 15 of this SDS. This product contains a small quantity of quartz, crystalline silica. Prolonged and repeated exposure to concentrations of crystalline silica exceeding the workplace exposure limit (WEL) may lead to chronic lung disease such as silicosis. Because this product is a liquid, under normal and recommended use, exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica will not apply. The product contains other ingredients which do not contribute to the overall classification.
First Aid Measures
Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents
If inhaled, remove from area to fresh air. Get medical attention if respiratory irritation develops or if breathing becomes difficult.
Symptoms: Please see Section 11. Toxicological Information for further information.
Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water while removing all contaminated clothes and shoes. Seek medical attention.
Symptoms: Please see Section 11. Toxicological Information for further information.
Promptly wash eyes with lots of water while lifting eye lids. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Seek medical attention if irritation occurs.
Symptoms: Please see Section 11. Toxicological Information for further information.
Rinse mouth. Do not induce vomiting without medical advice. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.
Symptoms: Please see Section 11. Toxicological Information for further information.
Immediate Medical Attention
If adverse symptoms develop, the casualty should be transferred to hospital as soon as possible.
Medical Treatment
Treat symptomatically.
Firefighting Measures
Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection
Water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide (CO₂), or foam.
Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.
None known.
Containers close to fire should be removed immediately or cooled with water.
Firefighter Protection
As in any fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective gear.
Accidental Release Measures
Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection
If spilled, take caution, as material can cause surfaces to become very slippery.
The product should not be allowed to enter drains, water courses or the soil. Avoid release to the environment.
Absorb with earth, sand or other non-combustible material and transfer to containers for later disposal.
Materials: earth, sand or other non-combustible material

Handling and Storage
Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements
Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Do not breathe vapors or spray mist. Avoid spills and splashing during use. If spilled, take caution, as material can cause surfaces to become very slippery. Persons susceptible to allergic reactions should not handle this product.
Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.
Use good work and personal hygiene practices to avoid exposure. When using do not smoke, eat or drink. Wash hands and face before breaks and immediately after handling the product. Remove contaminated clothing.
Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.
Exposure Controls / PPE
Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment
Ensure adequate ventilation. Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas.
Wear chemically resistant gloves (tested to EN 374) in combination with 'basic' employee training Impervious gloves made of: Neoprene Nitrile PVA PVC Butyl Break through time >480 minutes Glove thickness >=0.4 mm. Be aware that liquid may penetrate the gloves. Frequent change is advisable.
Use eye protection according to EN 166, designed to protect against liquid splashes. Safety glasses with side-shields. Tightly fitting safety goggles.
When workers are facing concentrations above the exposure limit they must use appropriate certified respirators, Respirator with combination filter for vapour/particulate (EN 141), Type A2/P3, At work in confined or poorly ventilated spaces, respiratory protection with air supply must be used.
Wear suitable protective clothing
Use appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination See section 6 for more information
