First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

No specific treatment is necessary since this material is not likely to be hazardous by inhalation. If exposed to excessive levels remove to fresh air and get medical attention if cough or other symptoms develop.

Skin contact

Wash with soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation develops or persists.

Symptoms: Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause skin irritation in some individuals.

Eye contact

Rinse eyes immediately with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the eyelids. Get medical attention if irritation or other symptoms exist.

Symptoms: Contact with eyes may cause slight irritation.

Ingestion

Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION.

Immediate Medical Attention

GET MEDICAL ATTENTION.

Medical Treatment

Treatment should be based on the judgment of the physician in response to the reactions of the patient.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Carbon dioxide, Dry chemical, Alcohol foam

Specific hazards

Can burn in fire releasing toxic vapors. Material may burn, but does not ignite readily. Avoid high temperature. Cloth or absorbent materials saturated with product may self-ignite on drying. Thoroughly wet any oil-soaked materials immediately with water and dispose in sealed metal containers.

Instructions

Evacuate area and fight fire from a safe distance. Normal firefighting procedures may be used. Using water can cause frothing with increasing fire intensity.

Firefighter Protection

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Isolate the hazard area and deny entry to unnecessary and unprotected personnel. Remove all contaminated clothing to prevent further absorption. Decontaminate affected personnel using the first aid procedures in Section 4. Leather shoes that have been saturated must be discarded.

Small spill

use suitable absorbent material and collect for later disposal.

Large spill

the area may require diking to contain the spill. Material can then be collected (eg., suction) for later disposal. Shut off leak if safe to do so. Clean up spills immediately using Protective Equipment recommended in Section VIII at a minimum. Retain all contaminated water for treatment.

Environmental

Prevent releases to soils, drains, sewers, and waterways.

Cleanup methods

collect for later disposal (eg., suction)

Materials: suitable absorbent material

07

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Wear appropriate protective equipment when performing maintenance on contaminated equipment. Wash hands thoroughly before eating or smoking after handling this material.

Storage

ambient temperature in a dry, well-ventilated location. Keep container closed when not in use.

Hygiene

Wash hands thoroughly before eating or smoking after handling this material.

Fire prevention

Materials saturated with product or containing product residues should be thoroughly wetted with water and disposed in metal containers to prevent self-ignition.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

All operations should be conducted in well-ventilated conditions. Local exhaust ventilation should be provided. All appropriate engineering controls should be used to minimize exposure potential. Use exhaust ventilation to keep airborne concentrations below exposure limits.

Eyes

Use chemical goggles, faceshields

Respiratory

Observe OSHA regulations for respirator use (29 CFR 1910.134). Air-purifying respirators must not be used in oxygen-deficient atmospheres.

Skin/Body

boots and impervious clothing
