First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

If symptoms are experienced, remove source of contamination or move victim to fresh air. If symptoms develop and persist, get medical attention.

Skin contact

Immediately flush skin with plenty of water (using soap, if available). Obtain medical attention if irritation persists.

Eye contact

Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention.

Ingestion

If material is ingested, immediately contact a physician or poison control center. DO NOT induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to a victim who is unconscious or is having convulsions.

Immediate Medical Attention

If symptoms develop and persist, get medical attention. Obtain medical attention if irritation persists. Get medical attention. Immediately contact a physician or poison control center.

Medical Treatment

This material, if aspirated into the lungs, may cause lipoid pneumonitis. Treat affected person appropriately. In the treatment of ethylene glycol overdose, ethanol competitively inhibits alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and prevents the formation of toxic metabolites. The affinity of ethylene glycol for ADH appears to be similar to ethanol. Ethanol should be administered only by qualified medical personnel.
