First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Bring the injured person into fresh air. Make sure the injured person is continuously monitored. Prevent shock by keeping the injured person warm and calm. If breathing ceases, give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. If unconscious, roll the injured person into recovery position. Call an ambulance.

Symptoms: Inhaled vapour or aerosols may produce adverse effects to lungs, irritations and burns in the respiratory organs, as well as coughing. Irritation to lungs.

Skin contact

Remove contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Ensure to wash exposed skin thoroughly with water and soap. Skin cleanser can be used. For burns: Rinse with water until the pain stops and continue for 30 minutes.

Symptoms: Skin corrosive properties. Dermal contact causes irreversible effects. Tingling sensations of skin. Irritation to skin.

Eye contact

Remove contact lenses. Flush eyes with plenty of water or salt water (20-30°C) for at least 15 minutes and continue until irritation stops. Make sure you flush under the upper and lower eyelids. Seek medical assistance immediately and continue flushing.

Symptoms: Contact with the eye causes irreversible effects. Irritation to eyes.

Ingestion

Provide plenty of water for the person to drink and stay with him/her. In case of malaise, seek medical advice immediately and bring the safety data sheet or label from the product. Do not induce vomiting, unless recommended by the doctor. Have the victim lean forward with head down to avoid inhalation of- or choking on vomited material.

Symptoms: malaise

Immediate Medical Attention

Seek medical assistance immediately for eye contact or in case of malaise.

Medical Treatment

Bring this safety data sheet.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

alcohol-resistant foam, carbonic acid, powder, water mist

Unsuitable media

Waterjets should not be used, since they can spread the fire.

Specific hazards

Fire will result in dense black smoke. Exposure to combustion products may harm your health.

Instructions

Upon direct exposure contact The National Poisons Information Service (dial 111, 24 h service) in order to obtain further advice.

Firefighter Protection

Fire fighters should wear appropriate protection equipment.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Avoid direct contact with spilled substances. Avoid inhalation of vapours from spilled material.

Environmental

No specific requirements.

Cleanup methods

To the extent possible cleaning is performed with normal cleaning agents. Avoid use of solvents.

Always store in containers of the same material as the original container. Containers that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage.

Hygiene

Smoking, storage of tobacco, consumption and storage of food or liquids are not allowed in the workrooms.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Airborne gas and dust concentrations must be kept at a minimum and below current limit values (see above). Installation of an exhaust system if normal air flow in the work room is not sufficient is recommended. Ensure emergency eyewash and -showers are clearly marked.

Hands

Recommended: Nitrile rubber. Breakthrough time: > 480 minutes (Class 6)

Eyes

Wear safety glasses with side shields.

Respiratory

Recommended: A. Class 2 (medium capacity). Brown

Skin/Body

Wear appropriate protection clothing, e.g. coveralls in polypropylene approved type 6 and Category III.

Environmental

Keep damming materials near the workplace. If possible, collect spillage during work.
