Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Immediately call a POISON CENTRE/doctor. Remove casualty to fresh air and keep warm and at rest. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration.

Symptoms: Respiratory disorders.

Skin contact

After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. Remove contaminated, saturated clothing immediately. In case of skin reactions, consult a physician.

Eye contact

In case of contact with eyes flush immediately with plenty of flowing water for 10 to 15 minutes holding eyelids apart and consult an ophthalmologist. Protect uninjured eye. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.

Symptoms: Risk of blindness.

Ingestion

Immediately call a POISON CENTRE/doctor. Do NOT induce vomiting. Rinse mouth thoroughly with water. Give nothing to eat or drink.

Symptoms: Nausea.

Immediate Medical Attention

Immediately call a POISON CENTRE/doctor.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically. Following ingestion: Administer 50 ml of pure ethanol in a drinkable concentration.

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Water spray, ABC-powder, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Nitrogen

Unsuitable media

Full water jet

Specific hazards

In case of fire may be liberated: Carbon monoxide, Carbon dioxide (CO2). Vapours are heavier than air, spread along floors and form explosive mixtures with air.

Instructions

In case of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes. Use water spray jet to protect personnel and to cool endangered containers. DO NOT fight fire when fire reaches explosives. In case of fire: Evacuate area.

Firefighter Protection

Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing. Use water spray jet to protect personnel and to cool endangered containers.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes. Avoid inhalation of the product. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing.

Environmental

Discharge into the environment must be avoided.

Cleanup methods

Collect in closed and suitable containers for disposal.

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Avoid inhalation of the product. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Wear protective gloves/protective clothing and eye/face protection. Use extractor hood (laboratory). If handled uncovered, arrangements with local exhaust ventilation have to be used. If local exhaust ventilation is not possible or not sufficient, the entire working area must be ventilated by technical means. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking. Take precautionary measures against static discharges.

Storage

Recommended storage temperature: 15-25°C. Keep container tightly closed and in a well-ventilated place. Keep cool. Protect from sunlight. Store in a place accessible by authorized persons only. Keep/Store away from combustible materials. Ground and bond container and receiving equipment. Provide adequate ventilation.

Hygiene

Wash hands before breaks and after work. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Provide eye shower and label its location conspicuously.

Fire prevention

Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Usual measures for fire prevention.
