First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

Remove exposed person to fresh air if adverse effects are observed.

Skin contact

Wash with soap and water. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse.

Eye contact

Any material that contacts the eye should be washed out immediately with water. If easy to do, remove contact lenses.

Immediate Medical Attention

Get medical attention if symptoms occur. Get medical attention.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

CO2, Dry chemical or Foam. Water can be used to cool and protect exposed material.

Unsuitable media

Do not use water jet as an extinguisher, as this will spread the fire.

Specific hazards

See section 10 for additional information.

Instructions

No data available.

Firefighter Protection

Wear full protective firegear including self-containing breathing apparatus operated in the positive pressure mode with full facepiece, coat, pants, gloves and boots.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Only trained personnel should be permitted in area. Personal Protective equipment and Equipment must be worn, see Personal Protection Section for PPE recommendations.

Large spill

Dike far ahead of larger spill for later recovery and disposal.

Environmental

Avoid release to the environment. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

Cleanup methods

Pick up free liquid for recycle and/or disposal. Residual liquid can be absorbed on inert material.

Materials: inert material

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood. Obtain special instructions before use. Use personal protective equipment as required. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse.

Storage

Store away from incompatible materials. Store container tightly closed in well-ventilated place.

Hygiene

Observe good industrial hygiene practices.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Material should be handled in enclosed vessels and equipment, in which case general (mechanical) room ventilation should be sufficient. Local exhaust ventilation should be used at points where dust, mist, vapors or gases can escape into the room air.

Hands

Use nitrile or neoprene gloves. Viton rubber (fluor rubber). Nitrile. Gloves are recommended when handling this material. Unless material is used in a process where the use of gloves would pose sufficient risk of injury to the user/operator. Consult with an industrial hygienist to determine the appropriate clothing protection for your specific use of this material. For typical use and handling of chemical substances, gloves should meet the standards set out in EN 374. For applications involving mechanical risks with potential for abrasion or puncture, the standards set out in EN 388 should be considered. For continuous contact, we suggest gloves with a minimum breakthrough time of 240 minutes, or > 480 minutes if suitable gloves can be obtained. For general applications, we recommend gloves with a thickness typically greater than 0.35 mm.

Eyes

Wear goggles/face shield. If contact is likely, safety glasses with side shields are recommended. Eye protection should meet the standards set out in EN 166.

Respiratory

Use respirator with a combination organic vapor and high efficiency filter cartridge if recommended exposure limit is exceeded. Use self-contained breathing apparatus for entry into confined space, for other poorly ventilated areas and for large spill clean-up sites. Consult with an industrial hygienist to determine the appropriate respiratory protection for your specific use of this material. A respiratory protection program compliant with all applicable regulations must be followed whenever workplace conditions require the use of a respirator. Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) is not normally required where there is adequate natural or local exhaust ventilation to control exposure. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.

Skin/Body

Gloves, coveralls, apron, boots as necessary to minimize contact. Chemical resistant boots.

Environmental

No data available. See section 6 for details.

This substance/mixture contains components considered to have endocrine disrupting properties for environment , according to REACH Article 57(f), Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/605 or Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/2100. Phenol, dodecyl-, branched: The substance is considered to have endocrine disrupting properties according to REACH Article 57(f) for the environment.

The substance Phenol, dodecyl-, branched is identified as having endocrine disrupting properties for the environment under REACH Article 57(f).

12.7 Other adverse effects

This material contains one or more components that have an impurity (alkylated phenol) that is highly toxic to aquatic organisms (Aquatic Acute 1 and Aquatic Chronic 1). The component containing the impurity (calcium phenate) was tested in fish, invertebrates and algae and the results showed that it may cause long lasting harmful effects to aquatic life (Aquatic Chronic 4). Therefore the classification shown in Section 3 for the alkylphenol impurity should not be used to classify the product for aquatic toxicity. May cause long lasting harmful effects to aquatic life.

The product contains an impurity (alkylated phenol) that is highly toxic to aquatic organisms, but testing of the component (calcium phenate) indicates it may cause long-lasting harmful effects to aquatic life (Aquatic Chronic 4).
