First Aid Measures

Emergency procedures for chemical exposure incidents

Inhalation

If breathing is difficult, remove to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Call a physician if symptoms develop or persist.

Skin contact

Remove and isolate contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water. Subsequent cleansing with polyethyleneglycol 400, then again with water and soap. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists. In case of contact with hot or molten product, cool rapidly with water and seek immediate medical attention. Do not attempt to remove molten product from skin because skin will tear easily.

Eye contact

Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Continue rinsing. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Get medical attention if irritation develops and persists.

Ingestion

Rinse mouth. Do not induce vomiting without advice from poison control center. If vomiting occurs, keep head low so that stomach content doesn't get into the lungs. Never give anything by mouth to a victim who is unconscious or is having convulsions. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Immediate Medical Attention

Get medical attention if symptoms occur.

Medical Treatment

Treat symptomatically.

05

Firefighting Measures

Extinguishing media, specific hazards, and firefighter protection

Suitable media

Foam. Powder. Carbon dioxide (CO2).

Unsuitable media

Do not use water jet as an extinguisher, as this will spread the fire.

Specific hazards

Porous material such as rags, paper, insulation, or organic clay may spontaneously combust when wetted with this material.

Instructions

Use standard firefighting procedures and consider the hazards of other involved materials. Move containers from fire area if you can do so without risk.

Firefighter Protection

Self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in case of fire.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Keep unnecessary personnel away. Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition. Ensure adequate ventilation. Wear appropriate protective equipment and clothing during clean-up.

Small spill

Wipe up with absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece). Clean surface thoroughly to remove residual contamination.

Large spill

Stop the flow of material, if this is without risk. Dike the spilled material, where this is possible. Absorb in vermiculite, dry sand or earth and place into containers. Following product recovery, flush area with water.

Environmental

Avoid discharge into drains, water courses or onto the ground.

Cleanup methods

Wipe up with absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece). Clean surface thoroughly to remove residual contamination.

Materials: absorbent material (e.g. cloth, fleece)

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Avoid prolonged exposure. Provide adequate ventilation. Avoid breathing mist or vapour. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Wash thoroughly after handling. Avoid release to the environment. Observe good industrial hygiene practices. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.

Storage

Store in a dry place. Store in original tightly closed container.

Hygiene

Wash thoroughly after handling. Observe good industrial hygiene practices.

Fire prevention

Do not handle, store or open near an open flame, sources of heat or sources of ignition. Take measures to prevent the build up of electrostatic charge.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Good general ventilation (typically 10 air changes per hour) should be used. Ventilation rates should be matched to conditions. If applicable, use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to maintain airborne levels below recommended exposure limits. If exposure limits have not been established, maintain airborne levels to an acceptable level.

Hands

Chemical-resistant, impervious gloves complying with an approved standard should be worn at all times when handling chemical products if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary. Considering the parameters specified by the glove manufacturer, check during use that the gloves are still retaining their protective properties. It should be noted that the time to breakthrough for any glove material may be different for different glove manufacturers. In the case of mixtures, consisting of several substances, the protection time of the gloves cannot be accurately estimated. After contamination with product change the gloves immediately and dispose of them according to relevant national and local regulations. Recommended: (< 1 hour) Polyvinyl chloride - PVC, Natural rubber - NR

Eyes

Wear safety glasses with side shields (or goggles).

Respiratory

If engineering controls do not maintain airborne concentrations below recommended exposure limits (where applicable) or to an acceptable level (in countries where exposure limits have not been established), an approved respirator must be worn. In the case of vapor formation use a respirator with an approved filter. Respirator with a vapor filter (EN 141) Respirator with ABEK-filter.

Skin/Body

Wear suitable protective clothing.

Environmental

Emissions from ventilation or work process equipment should be checked to ensure they comply with the requirements of environmental protection legislation. Organisational measures to prevent exposure: Environmental manager must be informed of all major releases.
