Unsuitable media

Not determined.

Specific hazards

See section 10 for additional information.

Instructions

No data available.

Firefighter Protection

Wear full protective firegear including self-containing breathing apparatus operated in the positive pressure mode with full facepiece, coat, pants, gloves and boots.

06

Accidental Release Measures

Spill cleanup procedures, containment, and environmental protection

Emergency procedures

Do not touch damaged containers or spilled material unless wearing appropriate protective clothing. Keep unauthorized personnel away.

Large spill

Dike far ahead of larger spill for later recovery and disposal.

Environmental

Avoid release to the environment. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

Handling and Storage

Safe handling precautions, storage conditions, and workplace requirements

Handling

Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood. Obtain special instructions before use. Avoid contact with skin. Observe good industrial hygiene practices. Provide adequate ventilation. Use personal protective equipment as required. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse. Avoid environmental contamination. Keep container closed when not in use and use with adequate ventilation. Material can accumulate static charges which may cause an electrical spark (ignition source). Use proper bonding and/or grounding procedures. Use grounding and bonding connection when transferring material. In case of spills, beware of slippery floors and surfaces.

Storage

Store away from incompatible materials. Do not store product at temperature in excess of 45°C (113°F) for extended periods of time, 1 week or more; or, using a heat source, such as steam, at a temperature in excess of 100°C (212°F).

Hygiene

Observe good industrial hygiene practices. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse.

Fire prevention

Material can accumulate static charges which may cause an electrical spark (ignition source). Use proper bonding and/or grounding procedures.

08

Exposure Controls / PPE

Occupational exposure limits, engineering controls, and protective equipment

Engineering

Use material in well ventilated area only. Material should be handled in enclosed vessels and equipment, in which case general (mechanical) room ventilation should be sufficient. Local exhaust ventilation should be used at points where dust, mist, vapors or gases can escape into the room air. No special requirements under ordinary conditions of use and with adequate ventilation. If applicable, use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to maintain airborne levels below recommended exposure limits.

Hands

Use nitrile or neoprene gloves. Use good industrial hygiene practices. In case of skin contact, wash hands and arms with soap and water. For typical use and handling of chemical substances, gloves should meet the standards set out in EN 374. For applications involving mechanical risks with potential for abrasion or puncture, the standards set out in EN 388 should be considered. For continuous contact, we suggest gloves with a minimum breakthrough time of 240 minutes, or > 480 minutes if suitable gloves can be obtained. For general applications, we recommend gloves with a thickness typically greater than 0.35 mm. Thinner gloves (down to 0.1 mm or less) may be required where a high degree of manual dexterity is needed. Thicker gloves (up to 3 mm or more) may be required where there is a mechanical (as well as a chemical) risk.

Eyes

Wear tight-fitting goggles or face shield. Eye protection should meet the standards set out in EN 166.

Respiratory

Use respirator with an organic vapor and dust/mist cartridge if the recommended exposure limit is exceeded. Use self-contained breathing apparatus for entry into confined space, for other poorly ventilated areas and for large spill clean-up sites. Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) is not normally required where there is adequate natural or local exhaust ventilation to control exposure. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.

Skin/Body

Wear apron or protective clothing in case of contact. Do not wear rings, watches or similar apparel that could entrap the material. Chemical resistant boots.

Environmental

No data available. See section 6 for details.

12.7 Other adverse effects

This material contains one or more components that have an impurity (alkylated phenol) that is highly toxic to aquatic organisms (Aquatic Acute 1 and Aquatic Chronic 1). The component containing the impurity (calcium phenate) was tested in fish, invertebrates and algae and the results showed that it may cause long lasting harmful effects to aquatic life (Aquatic Chronic 4). Therefore the classification shown in Section 3 for the alkylphenol impurity should not be used to classify the product for aquatic toxicity. Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects.

The product contains an impurity (alkylated phenol) that is highly toxic to aquatic organisms, but the component containing it (calcium phenate) is classified as Aquatic Chronic 4. The product is classified as harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
